The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ortiz avoids a punch combination nicely.

Ribeiro throws a series of punches but Ortiz avoids them all with ease.

Ortiz closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ribeiro to the mat! Ribeiro manages to get full guard.

Ortiz has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Ribeiro is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Ortiz.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Ortiz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ribeiro can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Ortiz isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Ribeiro stacks Ortiz on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Ribeiro!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ortiz had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Ribeiro is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Ortiz Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Ribeiro's back instead.

Ortiz goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Ribeiro has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Ortiz but great work by Ribeiro.
