The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pepper swats away the attempt to clinch by Manson.

Pepper had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Manson is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Pepper Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Manson's back instead.

Manson is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Pepper gets his way!

Manson is pushing down on Pepper's leg trying to pass to half guard. Pepper is fighting to maintain full guard but Manson has managed to sneak the leg through.
Manson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pepper. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Pepper escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Manson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Manson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pepper has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Manson has managed to get both his arms back between Pepper's legs - danger averted.

Pepper is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Manson is aware though and is defending well.

Manson throws a head kick that lands with a deafening thwack! The crowd roars as Pepper stumbles backwards and falls to the mat. Manson follows into mount!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
