PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cheick Kongo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charles Fontana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fontana has chosen Mouth for war as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cheick Kongo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Charles Fontana!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, William Peck and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kongo tries to clinch but Fontana is having none of it.

Kongo has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Fontana uses from the top position.

Fontana rushes Kongo and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Kongo tries to break the clinch but Fontana is controlling the position.
Fontana swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Fontana goes for a takedown attempt but Kongo pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Fontana gets underhooks to prevent Kongo's takedown attempt.
Kongo wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Kongo drops down looking for an ankle pick but Fontana pulls his leg out and moves away.
Fontana lands with a straight right. Kongo didn't see that one coming.
Kongo doesn't manage to clinch there - Fontana circles away.

Fontana scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Kongo tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Fontana wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Fontana tries for a kimura but Kongo is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Charles Fontana will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Kongo is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Fontana drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Kongo gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Kongo breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kongo tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Fontana counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Kongo scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Fontana clinches up with Kongo and pushes him back against the cage.

Fontana manages to break the clinch.
Kongo clinches but Fontana breaks the clinch
and Fontana counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Fontana fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kongo, pushing him back against the cage.
Fontana tries to pull guard but Kongo won't allow it.
Cheick Kongo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Charles Fontana.

Kongo breaks from the clinch.

Kongo looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Fontana!
Fontana is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Fontana is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Fontana tries to reverse the position but Kongo maintains control.

Fontana is in a horrible position here. Kongo smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

That's time! Kongo's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Fontana closes the distance and clinches.
Fontana lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Fontana escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kongo tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Fontana makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Fontana closes the distance and clinches up with Kongo, looking for a takedown. Fontana pushes Kongo against the cage but Kongo circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Fontana shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kongo but Kongo pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Kongo stuns Fontana with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Fontana doesn't manage to clinch there - Kongo circles away.
Nice takedown defense from Fontana. No joy for Kongo on that attempt.

Fontana lands with a nice combination. Kongo backs away looking to recover.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kongo closes the distance looking to clinch
and Fontana counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Fontana looks for a takedown but Kongo sprawls well.
Cheick Kongo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Charles Fontana.

Kongo gets control of Fontana's arms and successfully pulls guard. Kongo will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Fontana keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Kongo's head.

Fontana thows a big elbow that misses.
Kongo is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Fontana throwing strikes from guard but Kongo blocks nicely.
Fontana stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kongo swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Kongo drives through with a takedown into guard.
Kongo looking to sit in guard and control but Fontana gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Kongo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Fontana gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Kongo not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Cheick Kongo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Fontana postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Fontana wants to control from the top but Kongo keeps moving.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

I would just about give that final round to Charles Fontana.
I think Fontana has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
