PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between jones drew jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kody Corley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Corley comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Young Jeezy Ft. Akon-Soul Survivor kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, jones drew jr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kody Corley!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Jorge Garcia and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Corley shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts drew jr as he jumps to the side.
drew jr tries to clinch there but Corley circles away.
Corley misses with an uppercut.
Corley misses with the combination.

Corley moves into the clinch.

Corley has drew jr pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Corley pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending drew jr tumbling to the mat - Corley dives into drew jr's guard.
Corley passes drew jr's left leg - he's now in half guard.
drew jr trying to hold on to Corley's head to control him but Corley postures up.
Corley passes the guard and advances to mount!
drew jr is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Corley is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
drew jr shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
drew jr fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Corley forces drew jr back against the cage and clinches.

Corley has clasped his hands together around drew jr's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Corley looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Check out the look on Corley's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Corley working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Corley looks gassed!
Corley lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear drew jr down.

Corley stands up and we're back to a striking position.
drew jr goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
drew jr shoots in for a double leg but Corley sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for jones drew jr. That's going to take a lot out of him.

drew jr has managed to clinch.

Corley has clasped his hands together around drew jr's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Corley swings around for an armbar but drew jr sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Corley's guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Corley is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
drew jr will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
drew jr scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
drew jr tries to clinch but Corley is having none of it.
Corley keeps drew jr at a distance using the push kick.
Corley tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but drew jr swivels and escapes.

and Corley counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Corley is looking to stall here but drew jr recovers full guard.
Corley would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kody Corley dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


drew jr tries for a takedown but Corley sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
drew jr fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
drew jr shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Corley but Corley pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Corley closes this distance looking for a takedown but drew jr circles away.

Corley wants to stand but drew jr is controlling his posture from full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Corley stands and steps away. drew jr gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Corley is breathing heavily.

drew jr shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. drew jr showed some decent athleticism there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Corley tries to kick drew jr off but drew jr keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

drew jr wants to lay and pray for a moment but Corley keeps working.

drew jr is trying to work for a kimura but Corley is defending well.
drew jr is trying to control the action in half guard but Corley is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Corley pushes drew jr off and gets back to his feet.
drew jr throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Corley.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Good work by Corley as he checks the leg kick.
drew jr throws a series of punches but Corley moves out of range.
Corley misses with a body shot.
drew jr misses with the combination.

and Corley counters with a shoot takedown. drew jr fights it but they end up in guard.

Corley is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Kody Corley has got the better of the ground game so far.
Corley throws a strike but drew jr rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Corley wants to stand and escape but drew jr is having none of it.

Corley has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. drew jr is working away from the top position though.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

drew jr drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

drew jr creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Corley sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Corley tries to bench press drew jr off him but drew jr keeps the position.
drew jr throws an elbow but Corley slips to the side and avoids it well.
Corley wants to get back to his feet.
drew jr tries to move into full mount but can't pass Corley's legs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kody Corley showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

drew jr working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Corley doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Corley manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Corley takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Corley must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Corley fails to land the takedown.
drew jr throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Corley shoots in for a double leg but drew jr sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Donk. drew jr catches Corley right on the button with a cross.
drew jr swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Corley looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
jones drew jr has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kody Corley.
Corley avoids a punch combination nicely.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

drew jr shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
jones drew jr has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kody Corley is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

drew jr is going olschool here, as he tries to force Corley to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Corley shrugs it off.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to jones drew jr.
I think Corley has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
