PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matteus Luther (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony B (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matteus Luther has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matteus Luther!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tony B!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Cecil Peabody and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Luther shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has B pinned against the cage. B gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Luther closes the distance and clinches up with B, looking for a takedown. Luther pushes B against the cage but B circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Luther tries to keep at a distance but B has taken the fight into the clinch.

B drags the fight down to the ground.
B keeping moving, preventing Luther from controlling successfully.

B looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
B utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

B working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Luther doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Luther manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
B trying to keep a closed guard but Luther is proving a slippery customer.
Luther wants to pass the guard but B is keeping the position.

B had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Luther is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. B Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Luther's back instead.

Luther trying to control the position but B manages to sink in the hooks.
B lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Luther hold on?!

B is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Luther knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Luther for a finish.

B doesn't have the hooks in and Luther manages to turn into his guard.
Luther will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
B wants to hit a switch here but Luther passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for B there!
B is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Luther is landing with some decent strikes but B is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
B tries to hold on but Luther postures up.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
B is trying desperately to improve position.
B trying to punch from the bottom. They're landing but they're really not going to hurt Luther.
B can't escape the position.
B looks gassed!
Luther wants to stand but B is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.

Luther is going olschool here, as he tries to force B to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so B shrugs it off.
Luther looking to control but B is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
B is trying to escape the mount.

Luther trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Luther sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
B is in all sorts of trouble here.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
B tries to get back to half guard but can't.
B regains half guard.
B wants to improve his position but Luther is controlling well.

The fighters are battling for position here. B manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Luther drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and B dives on top into guard.

B gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Connects with an elbow from the bottom, proving to the judges that he's still active off his back.

B is looking for a triangle here but Luther uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

B throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
B is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Luther is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Luther blocks B's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
B tries to lock up and control but Luther gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
B wants to get back to his feet.
Luther avoids the attempt from B to control.

Luther wants to finish this one by submission but B is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Luther.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

B tries to lock up and control but Luther gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
B wants to hold on but Luther pushes him away.
Luther prevents B from getting the reversal.

Luther swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and B is now in Luther's guard. A big mistake from Luther there, giving up the dominant position!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

B postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
B postures up and lands a big shot to Luther's brow.
Luther has momentary wrist control but B slips an elbow through the middle.

Luther escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. B gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
B trying to control but Luther is working from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells B's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tony B showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Luther moves into full mount! B won't be happy about that!

Luther goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now B is on top in guard.

Matteus Luther has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

B drops back, looking for a kneebar! Luther looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Luther looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Luther!
Luther has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Tony B is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Luther avoids the attempt from B to control.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Tony B.
Well B has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
