PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Paul Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kerry Jason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paul Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kerry Jason!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Luis Engracia and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walker stuffs the takedown attempt from Jason. Jason gets slowly back to his feet.

and Jason counters with a nice body kick.

Walker moves into range and clinches up with Jason.
Walker wants to break the clinch but can't.
Jason drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Walker gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Jason breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Paul Walker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kerry Jason.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Jason changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Walker tries to avoid it but Jason manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Walker to the ground. Walker escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Walker fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Jason is out of range.
Walker scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

and Jason counters with a single leg into guard. Walker didn't expect that.

Jason loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Jason gets to his feet - Walker follows without any prompting.
Jason tries to close the distance and clinch but Walker swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Jason shoots in looking for a takedown. Walker tries to sprawl out of it but Jason keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Walker manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Paul Walker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Walker moves into the clinch.
Jason tries to pull guard but Walker won't allow it.
Walker wants to get back to striking at distance but Jason won't allow it.
Walker wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Walker is looking to break free of the clinch but Jason has double underhooks.
Jason drops down looking for an ankle pick but Walker pulls his leg out and moves away.
Walker tries to bum rush Jason with a series of wild strikes but Jason uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Walker slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Walker misses with a combination
and Jason counters with a body kick that stops Walker in his tracks momentarily.
Walker connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
No luck for Jason with that takedown attempt.
Walker throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Horrible takedown by Jason or perhaps it was just good defense by Walker which made him look bad.
Jab, jab by Walker - just one landing.
Walker misses with a double jab
and Jason counters with a one-two to the body.
Walker pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Walker throws a right and a left that both miss.
Jason fails to land the takedown.
Walker scores with a decent looking hook.

Walker clinches with his opponent.
Walker wants to get back to striking at distance but Jason won't allow it.
Walker can't break the clinch.
Walker is looking to break free of the clinch but Jason has double underhooks.
Walker wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Jason's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Jason misses with a takedown
and Walker counters with a one-two to the body.


It looks like Kerry Jason has been cut.
Jason misses with a takedown attempt - Walker sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Walker closes the distance and lands a one-two.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jason has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Walker gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

and Walker counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jason won't be happy with that.
Jason wants to control but Walker postures up.

Walker stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Walker throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Jason.
Walker misses with the combination.
Walker misses with a straight left.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Walker scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jason is not content to let Walker control the position.

Jason manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Walker is in all sorts of trouble here.

Walker knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jason on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Jason throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Jason misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Walker dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Kerry Jason's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Walker swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Walker wants to clinch.
Jason has his takedown stuffed
and Walker counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Walker throws a right and a left that Jason avoids nicely.
Jason drops his hands momentarily and Walker takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Walker lands a with a good body shot.
Walker throws a series of punches but Jason avoids them all with ease.
Jason fails to land the takedown.
Walker lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Walker misses with a low kick as Jason jumps back.
Jason closes the distance and clinches up with Walker, looking for a takedown. Jason pushes Walker against the cage but Walker circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Paul Walker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kerry Jason.
Walker throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Walker connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Walker ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Walker wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

A nice right hand lands inside from Walker.
Walker prevents Jason from breaking the clinch.

Walker jumps guard and drags Jason to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Jason throws and elbow that misses. Walker uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Jason's guard. Nice move by Walker!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Jason manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Walker manages to get himself to full guard.
Jason tries to stand but Walker is controlling from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Walker kicks Jason off and gets to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Walker fails to land with a series of punches.
Jason connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Walker cracks Jason with a right hand to the side of the head.
Jason closes the distance but Walker moves to the side

so Walker counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jason is on top in guard.

Jason in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Walker has his hands on Jason's head, controlling the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jason accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

And that's the end of the fight!
Paul Walker showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Walker has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
