PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Marshall Moss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Red Dawn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marshall Moss!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Red Dawn!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Jorge Garcia and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dawn stalks Moss and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Moss's face. Moss staggers backwards, shaken.
Moss shoots for a takedown but Dawn saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Dawn looks to land a combination. Moss sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Dawn throws a series of punches but Moss avoids them all with ease.
Moss closes this distance looking for a takedown but Dawn circles away.
Dawn throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Dawn misses with a takedown

and Moss counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Dawn!
Moss sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Moss takes Dawn's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Dawn is in trouble.

Moss has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Dawn has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Moss is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Dawn is looking to work some ground and pound but Moss has wrist control.

Moss has his foot on Dawn's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dawn works his way back into a safe position though.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Moss is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Moss is breathing heavily.

Moss isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Dawn stacks Moss on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Dawn!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Moss can't do much from the bottom here.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Dawn swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Moss fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Dawn's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Dawn closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Dawn wants to get back to striking at distance but Moss won't allow it.
Moss prevents Dawn from breaking the clinch.
Moss goes for a takedown in the clinch but Dawn prevents it.
Moss jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Dawn walks away with a smile on his face. Moss gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marshall Moss. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dawn looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Dawn throws a series of punches but Moss avoids them all with ease.
Dawn tries to bum rush Moss with a series of wild strikes but Moss uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Dawn lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Moss shoots in looking for a takedown. Dawn tries to sprawl out of it but Moss keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Dawn manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Marshall Moss is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Moss slips a jab and a cross from Dawn.
Moss shoots in but Dawn avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Moss is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Dawn has managed to free his arm - good work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Moss takes the fight into the clinch.

Moss escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Dawn shoots in looking for a takedown. Moss tries to sprawl out of it but Dawn keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Moss manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Red Dawn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Moss drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Moss working the ground and pound.
Moss is looking to take a break and control but Dawn is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Moss is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Dawn is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Moss tries for a kimura but Dawn is defending well.

Dawn throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
Moss wants to take a breather but Dawn manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Moss.

Marshall Moss dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Dawn shoots for a takedown but Moss saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Dawn stuns Moss with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

No joy there for Dawn, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Dawn working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Marshall Moss is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Moss is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Dawn knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Dawn for a finish.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Marshall Moss.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Moss, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
