The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Thiago Cunha and Edson Gomes.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fitzlarry closes the distance and pushes Machida back into the cage.
Fitzlarry stalls.
Machida is trying to break the clinch but Fitzlarry is controlling him.

Fitzlarry has clasped his hands together around Machida's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Fitzlarry tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Fitzlarry has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Fitzlarry tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Fitzlarry throws a strike aimed at the side of Machida's head but Machida avoids it well.

Fitzlarry wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Machida, who protects the arm well.

Fitzlarry is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Machida knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Machida wants to control but Fitzlarry postures up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Fitzlarry is looking to clinch.
Machida swats away the attempt to clinch by Fitzlarry.
Fitzlarry pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Fitzlarry fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Fitzlarry slaps away a takedown attempt from Machida, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Fitzlarry throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Machida was covering up waiting for the punch and Fitzlarry finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Machida is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Machida scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Machida tries for a takedown but Fitzlarry circles away easily

and Fitzlarry moves into the clinch.
Fitzlarry tries to land knees in the clinch but Machida avoids the damage to the body.
A nice left hand lands by Fitzlarry.
Fitzlarry working some nice short punches in the clinch.

Fitzlarry has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Machida uses from the top position.

Fitzlarry decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Fitzlarry looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are battling for position here. Machida manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

That's time! Machida's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Fitzlarry shoots in for a double leg but Machida sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Fitzlarry darts in and clinches Machida up against the cage.

Machida tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Fitzlarry just stands there and leans against the cage.

Machida is posturing up here but Fitzlarry has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Machida tries to roll out but it's too tight and Machida has to tap! Slick submission there by Fitzlarry!
