PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chucky Reyes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and SergiO Ortiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reyes comes to the cage accompanied by Nine Inch Nails - Deep. Ortiz has chosen Face the pain - Steem as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chucky Reyes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, SergiO Ortiz!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Mauricio Rocha and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ortiz drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Ortiz missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ortiz looking to sit in guard and control but Reyes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Reyes gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Reyes clinches up against the cage.
Reyes has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Ortiz is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Ortiz drops down looking for an ankle pick but Reyes pulls his leg out and moves away.
Reyes throws a right and a left that Ortiz avoids nicely.
Ortiz looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Horrible takedown by Ortiz or perhaps it was just good defense by Reyes which made him look bad.
Chucky Reyes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of SergiO Ortiz.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

SergiO Ortiz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Reyes gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Reyes drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Ortiz gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Reyes is trying to drag Ortiz to the mat but Ortiz just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Reyes is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ortiz wants to break free but Reyes has control.
Reyes stops a takedown attempt from Ortiz.

Reyes gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Ortiz tries to kick Reyes off but Reyes keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Reyes wants to take a breather but Ortiz is having none of it.
Ortiz is trying to maintain the position but Reyes is very close to passing his half guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Chucky Reyes will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Ortiz shoots in for a double leg but Reyes sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Reyes lands with a cross.
Reyes connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Ortiz momentarily.
Reyes will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Ortiz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Ortiz has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Reyes is working away from the top position though.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Reyes smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ortiz can do anything to dispel that myth.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Ortiz looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Reyes blocking the ground and pound attempt from Ortiz.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ortiz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reyes wants to stand and escape but Ortiz is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Chucky Reyes will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Reyes gets caught flat footed, as Ortiz shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Ortiz throws and elbow that misses. Reyes uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Ortiz's guard. Nice move by Reyes!

Reyes throws a jab but it's blocked by Ortiz.

Ortiz clinches but Reyes breaks the clinch

and Reyes counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Reyes is working for takedown but Ortiz is calmly controlling the position for now.
Ortiz tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Reyes just stands there and leans against the cage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
A bit of stalling here from Reyes.
Ortiz changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Reyes fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Chucky Reyes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of SergiO Ortiz.

Well Reyes has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
