PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Damien Gamble (ranked 4400 p4p, 4203 weight class) and Miroslav Makhegov (ranked 406 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Miroslav Makhegov!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Fedor Mirinova and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gamble fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Makhegov to the ground. Gamble is now in Makhegov's guard.
Gamble looking to pass the guard.
Makhegov seems keen to control Gamble's posture.
Gamble has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Makhegov tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Makhegov is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gamble is aware though and is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Makhegov is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Gamble defends it well.

Makhegov looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Makhegov takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Makhegov's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Gamble tries to hold on but Makhegov pushes him away.
Makhegov controlling the position easily from mount.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Makhegov decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Gamble tries to kick Makhegov off in order to stand up. Makhegov Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Makhegov in side control lands a decent elbow.
Makhegov wants to control but Gamble is keeping him busy.

Gamble knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Makhegov on the ground.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Check out the look on Makhegov's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Makhegov stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Makhegov tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Makhegov shoots in but Gamble avoids the takedown attempt easily.

and Makhegov counters with a takedown into side control.
Gamble tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Makhegov lands a big elbow.

Makhegov takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Makhegov pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Makhegov has control of Gamble's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Gamble regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Makhegov is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Gamble has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Makhegov controlling from the full mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Miroslav Makhegov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Makhegov shoots in and drives through. Gamble sprawls well.
Gamble tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Makhegov manages to circle out of the way.
Gamble throws a nice outside leg kick.

Makhegov closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Makhegov has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Gamble is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Makhegov is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Gamble on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Gamble tries to get out of the position.
Gamble tries to lock up and control but Makhegov gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Makhegov working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Gamble looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Makhegov! Submission of the night perhaps?
