PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Robert Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alan Shepard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Land Down Under. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Robert Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alan Shepard!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Damien Edna and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shepard throws a right and a left that both miss.
Jones is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch but Shepard swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Shepard tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jones swivels and escapes.
Shepard will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Jones tries to clinch there but Shepard circles away.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch up but Shepard swats him away and circles back towards the center.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Jones moves into full guard.

Jones had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Shepard is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Jones Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Shepard's back instead.

Jones is looking for a rear naked choke here but Shepard reverses the position brilliantly into Jones's guard!

Shepard wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Jones looking for a guillotine here but Shepard defends easily.

Jones looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Shepard won't allow Jones to get back to his feet.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Shepard fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Shepard shoots in but no luck this time.
Jones throws a head kick that Shepard semi-blocks.


It looks like Alan Shepard has been cut.
Shepard throws a right hand that Jones ducks under and follows up with a left that Jones also avoids with ease.
Shepard misses with a two punch combination.
Jones tries to clinch but Shepard is having none of it.
Shepard misses with a takedown attempt - Jones sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Robert Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alan Shepard.
Jones doesn't manage to clinch there - Shepard circles away.
Robert Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shepard tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Jones is looking to improve his position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Shepard content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Jones wants to control but Shepard is keeping busy.
Jones is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Shepard's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Shepard's back!

Shepard throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Shepard shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Shepard was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Shepard wants to control the pace but Jones is squirming around nicely.

Jones wants to sweep here but Shepard controlling him for the moment.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jones is on top in guard.
Alan Shepard has got the better of the ground game so far.

I would just about give that final round to Alan Shepard.
I think Shepard has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
