Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Brandon Byrum (ranked 1520 p4p, 1910 weight class) and Emanuel Gallegos (ranked 159 p4p, 201 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brandon Byrum! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Emanuel Gallegos! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gallegos throws a series of punches but Byrum moves out of range. Gallegos connects with a looping right hand.
Byrum dives in and scores a takedown into Gallegos's guard. Gallegos throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
We've been hearing good reports from Byrum's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Gallegos looking to hit a scissor sweep but Byrum is one step ahead there. Byrum trying to control but Gallegos is working from the bottom. Byrum pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gallegos is keeping the position for now. Byrum stopping the sweep attempt from Gallegos. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Byrum's corner. There ya go! There ya go! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gallegos thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Byrum won't allow Gallegos to sweep him here. Byrum tries to free his leg and advance position but Gallegos is retaining full guard. Byrum trying to control the position from guard on top but Gallegos is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Byrum controlling from the top position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gallegos is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Gallegos really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Byrum. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Gallegos throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Byrum avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Gallegos. Gallegos thows an elbow strike that misses. Byrum gets hold of full guard and has managed to get a loose guillotine attempt. Gallegos doesn't seem too bothered but Byrum quickly shifts his position and has tightened the hold! Gallegos is in big trouble now - he's going a funny colour - he's tapping out! Nice finish there! Gallegos really should have spotted the danger earlier though... either incompetence or over-confidence has resulted in a big L on his record.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Brandon Byrum! Brandon Byrum retains his lightweight title!
