PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mate Orsic (ranked 387 p4p, 249 weight class) and Conor Lee (ranked 48 p4p, 32 weight class). Orsic comes to the cage accompanied by KRS One - Rappaz R. N. Dainja. Mate Orsic had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 156.5lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Conor Lee was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 15 - 1, fighting out of New York, Mate Orsic!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Conor Lee!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Aafke Stam and Daniel Blasius.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Lee lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Lee uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Orsic.

Orsic shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Lee is trying to defend but Orsic finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Lee gets full guard.
Orsic is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Orsic wants to control from the top but Lee keeps moving.

Lee is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Lee is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Orsic defends well.
Orsic's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Orsic got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lee has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Orsic has managed to get both his arms back between Lee's legs - danger averted.

Orsic avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Lee throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Orsic escapes and throws Lee's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Orsic is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Lee knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Lee tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Orsic wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Lee manages to work his way to half guard, despite Orsic's best efforts.
Lee is looking to improve his position.
Orsic has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Lee wants to hold on but Orsic pushes him away.
Lee is desperately trying to improve his position but Orsic has a good base and remains in mount.

Lee manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Orsic is keen to just control but Lee is a slippery customer.
Lee is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Lee is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Orsic scores with a couple of nice shots.

Orsic is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Lee sees it coming and defends easily.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Orsic lands a nice short elbow.

Lee wants to improve his position but Orsic is controlling well.
Lee has a hand on Orsic's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Orsic takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Orsic landing strikes, looking to finish!
Orsic fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Orsic goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Lee turns into him and now he's in Orsic's guard.

Orsic can't keep his opponent in guard - Lee advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Lee is trying to control. Orsic wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mate Orsic dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

An inside leg kick from Lee misses.
Lee moves out of range as Orsic strikes.
A slapping leg kick lands for Lee.
Lee takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Lee takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Jab by Lee.
Mate Orsic is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Orsic throws out a loose jab but Lee uses good head movement to avoid it.
A swing and a miss from Orsic.
Lee looks like he wants to counter punch here.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Lee has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Orsic can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Orsic passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Orsic lands an elbow.
Lee tries to improve position but can't.
Orsic cracks Lee with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Lee tries to bench press Orsic off him but Orsic keeps the position.
Lee is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Orsic is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Lee can do to turn this around?
Lee on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Orsic looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Lee with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Orsic seems to be working for a kimura but Lee defends the submission attempt.

Lee has his foot on Orsic's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Orsic works his way back into a safe position though.

Orsic is nestled in close to Lee, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Orsic is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Lee is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
