PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Peat Macallan (ranked 5725 p4p, 5739 weight class) and Rhys McKee (ranked 529 p4p, 532 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Peat Macallan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rhys McKee!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Ben Hemmingworth and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McKee scores with a body shot.

Macallan closes the distance and clinches.
A head punch on the inside from Macallan fails to land.
Macallan can't find room to land a body shot as McKee controls the action.
Macallan lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
I was talking to Macallan's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Macallan misses with a hook to the ribs.
McKee gets underhooks to prevent Macallan's takedown attempt.
Macallan is looking for a takedown.
McKee blocks a body shot from Macallan.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McKee takes a shot to the head.
McKee working hard to break the clinch.
Macallan fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Macallan's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Macallan has clasped his hands together around McKee's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Macallan moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
McKee wants to get back to his feet.

McKee is trying to buck Macallan off.
Macallan is staying tight to McKee's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Macallan working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
McKee is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Macallan is controlling him well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Macallan creates some space and throws a big elbow, but McKee sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

McKee is trying to get back to his feet.
McKee seems a little lost for a moment, as Macallan dominates the positioning.

Macallan wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by McKee, who protects the arm well.
McKee is not content to let Macallan control the position.
McKee wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Macallan thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Macallan is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, McKee has escaped the position, nice work there.
Macallan trying to control the position but McKee is working away.

Macallan prevents McKee from escaping the position.

Macallan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Macallan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
McKee really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Macallan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Macallan creates some space and throws a big elbow, but McKee sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
You can see the frustration on McKee's face as Macallan controls the position.
Macallan tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
McKee is not content to let Macallan control the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Macallan controls the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Peat Macallan dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Macallan scores with a takedown into McKee's guard.
McKee wants to stand up but Macallan is controlling him.
Macallan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McKee swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Macallan drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Macallan jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Macallan won't allow McKee to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McKee is looking to stand back up but Macallan counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by McKee.
McKee is trying to stand.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

McKee manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Macallan keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Macallan tries to throw a body punch but McKee avoids it by throwing Macallan back against the cage.
Macallan throws a punch but it's blocked by McKee.
Macallan stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
McKee's coach down at Dillo's Deadly Dojo was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on McKee's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Macallan working aggressively here.

A bit of stalling here from Macallan.
Macallan goes for a takedown attempt but McKee pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Macallan slips under a jab.
Macallan appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Macallan uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from McKee.
Macallan slips a jab and a cross from McKee.
McKee throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Macallan darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
McKee is trying to escape back to his feet but Macallan uses the scramble to pass into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Macallan prevents McKee from escaping the position.
Peat Macallan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
McKee is not content to let Macallan control the position.
The ground and pound from Macallan seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McKee is pushing Macallan's head away, looking to escape. Macallan manages to hold on to the position though.

Macallan is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. McKee is trying to escape and Macallan transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and McKee is forced to tap! Nice work there by Macallan! Very nice indeed!
