PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ja Maica (ranked 3497 p4p, 1519 weight class) and Sambo Sam (ranked 375 p4p, 59 weight class). Maica has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ja Maica!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sambo Sam!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Chris Saunders and Jeff Smith.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maica shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Maica takes one on the button.
A decent looking cross lands there for Sam.
Maica takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Maica gets caught napping as Sam dives in and scores a takedown. Maica manages to retain guard.

Maica has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Sam is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Maica is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sam is trying to trip Maica. He has hold of a leg but Maica is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Sam persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Sam is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Maica is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

It looks like Sam might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Maica looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Maica is working to avoid the ground and pound but Sam connects with a decent elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sam lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Sam wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Maica, who protects the arm well.
Maica is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Maica takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Sam cracks Maica with a big right hand but Maica just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Sam has hold of Maica's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Maica seems comfortable defending it but Sam has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Maica is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Maica is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Sam couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Sambo Sam!
A less than humble Sambo Sam misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
