PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gary Hall (ranked 4108 p4p, 4170 weight class) and Johnny Lunacy (ranked 415 p4p, 0 weight class). Lunacy comes into a darkened arena with his song building. I Serve The Bass kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gary Hall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johnny Lunacy!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lunacy shoots for a takedown but Hall saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Hall tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Lunacy manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Hall lands with a nice body kick.
Hall throws a series of punches but Lunacy moves out of range.
Lunacy tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hall defends well and Lunacy ends up having to push Hall into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Lunacy gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
A right hand to the body from Lunacy.

Lunacy escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hall darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Lunacy avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
A clash of legs there as Lunacy blocks the low kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hall tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Lunacy manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Lunacy with the counter takedown but Hall avoids it easily.
Hall throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Lunacy holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Hall.
Hall is looking to break free of the clinch but Lunacy has double underhooks.

Lunacy gets control of Hall's arms and successfully pulls guard. Lunacy will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Lunacy is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Lunacy tries to pass the half guard into mount. Hall knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Lunacy in particular looking to stall.
It looks like Lunacy might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Lunacy wants to free his trapped foot but Hall is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Lunacy is taking a breather. Hall says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Lunacy is continuing to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Lunacy has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Lunacy takes one on the chin but seems OK.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Lunacy darts in looking for a takedown but Hall gets double underhooks and turns Lunacy into the cage.
Gary Hall has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny Lunacy.
Hall swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Lunacy moves into the clinch.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Hall just misses with a elbow thrown towards Lunacy's brow.

Lunacy is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Hall can't fight it off and eventually Lunacy manages to take the fight to the floor. Hall looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Hall wants to get back to his feet but Lunacy passes into half guard.

Lunacy is taking a breather. Hall says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Hall really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Johnny Lunacy dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

and Lunacy counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Lunacy.
Lunacy with a knee to the head.

It looks like Gary Hall has been cut.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Lunacy manages to break the clinch.
Hall throws a series of strikes that have Lunacy backpedaling.
Gary Hall is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Hall is trying to break the clinch but Lunacy is controlling him.

Lunacy pulls guard.

Hall avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Lunacy pulls Hall in close to prevent any damage.
Lunacy manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hall manages to get himself to full guard.

Lunacy stays in close to Hall's body and controls the position.
Lunacy works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Lunacy seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Lunacy seems to be looking for submissions.
Lunacy is taking a breather. Hall says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Lunacy moves nicely into side control.
Lunacy scoring with punches and elbows.

Lunacy stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Lunacy clinches up with Hall and pushes him back against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lunacy is pushing Hall up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Lunacy has clasped his hands together around Hall's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Lunacy controls the position.
The adventures of Lunacy the control monster continue. Boring.

Lunacy wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hall, who protects the arm well.

Hall throws a right and a left that Lunacy avoids nicely.
Lunacy takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Hall fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Lunacy circles away from the clinch attempt.

and Hall counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Lunacy has a takedown stuffed.

Lunacy has managed to clinch.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Lunacy utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.

Lunacy is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Gary Hall has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny Lunacy.

Lunacy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Lunacy pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Gary Hall is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Hall lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Hall cracks Lunacy with a right hand to the side of the head.
Hall wants to clinch up but Lunacy keeps it at a distance.
Hall tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lunacy swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Lunacy throws a big counter head kick but Hall avoids it with no problem.
Lunacy dodges the punch combination from Hall.
Hall throws a right and a left that both miss.
Hall lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Lunacy fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Hall is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Hall tries to clinch but Lunacy moves away
and Lunacy counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Hall tries to clinch up but Lunacy circles away and keeps his distance.
Lunacy shoots in but no luck this time.

Lunacy rushes Hall and presses him up against the cage.

Lunacy breaks from the clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Lunacy throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hall's waist but Hall gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lunacy off to one side.
Gary Hall has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hall tries to clinch but Lunacy moves out of range.
Hall lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Hall lands with a nice combination. Lunacy backs away looking to recover.
Hall tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Lunacy throws a nice looking combination but Hall bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Hall tries to clinch up.
Lunacy slips a jab and a cross from Hall.
Johnny Lunacy is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Hall misses with an attempted mid kick.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gary Hall showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Lunacy has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Johnny Lunacy was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
