PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rewa Tate (ranked 4637 p4p, 4652 weight class) and Jeremiah McLoughlin (ranked 204 p4p, 206 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rewa Tate!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jeremiah McLoughlin!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Steve Erwin and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McLoughlin closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - McLoughlin lands in his opponent's guard.
Tate looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Tate controls McLoughlin momentarily but McLoughlin frees himself.
McLoughlin tries to stand but Tate is controlling from the bottom.
McLoughlin works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with McLoughlin in particular looking to stall.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tate wants to get back to full guard but McLoughlin has passed into side control.
McLoughlin is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

McLoughlin has control of an arm but Tate manages to advance to McLoughlin's back!
McLoughlin trying to control the hands but Tate won't let him.
McLoughlin looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.

Tate is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. McLoughlin defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Tate is not going to allow McLoughlin to sit and survive in this position.

McLoughlin wants to escape the position.

Tate looking for the choke from the back.
I really don't envy McLoughlin right now.
McLoughlin has hold of Tate's arm. He needs to escape this position sooner or later but for now he's happy enough to control the position and prevent the submission attempts.
McLoughlin wants to control his opponent's hands but Tate gets his hands free.

McLoughlin is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Tate gets his way!
McLoughlin manages to reverse the position and now he's in Tate's guard. Nice work there by McLoughlin.

McLoughlin looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
McLoughlin is putting a hurting on Tate here, landing some big shots from side control.

McLoughlin is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Tate is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Tate tries to buck McLoughlin off but McLoughlin is having none of it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
McLoughlin in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
You can see the frustration on Tate's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
McLoughlin is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Tate will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Tate is looking to reverse the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
McLoughlin slows the pace down.
Tate is looking for a sweep.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jeremiah McLoughlin dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Tate avoids the head kick by McLoughlin.
Nice takedown defense from McLoughlin. No joy for Tate on that attempt.

McLoughlin closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

McLoughlin has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

McLoughlin wants to pass the guard but Tate is defending well.
McLoughlin moves nicely into side control.
McLoughlin tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Tate really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

McLoughlin wants to stand but Tate is controlling his arm.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tate manages to work his way to half guard, despite McLoughlin's best efforts.
McLoughlin works his foot free and advances to mount.
McLoughlin scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Tate?

Tate is looking to get to half guard.
McLoughlin looking to control and managing it successfully.
McLoughlin lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

McLoughlin working for a guillotine from mount but Tate is in no mood to give up.
McLoughlin lands with some strikes.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jeremiah McLoughlin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


McLoughlin has closed the distance and engaged Tate in a clinch.
Tate tries to pull guard but McLoughlin holds him up against the cage and eventually Tate drops back down to his feet.

McLoughlin turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and McLoughlin manages to end up in side control.
Tate tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but McLoughlin wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
McLoughlin staying calm.
Tate is looking to regain half guard here but McLoughlin keeps moving and retains side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McLoughlin scores with a couple of short elbows.

McLoughlin moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Tate gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Tate tries to hold on but McLoughlin pushes him away.

McLoughlin gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

McLoughlin drives through with a takedown into Tate's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Tate is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

McLoughlin wants to get up but he can't break Tate's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Tate working for a triangle but McLoughlin defends it easily.
McLoughlin postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Tate seems keen to control McLoughlin's posture.

McLoughlin landing with the ground and pound.
Tate is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
McLoughlin is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

McLoughlin moves into the clinch.

McLoughlin drags the fight down to the ground.

McLoughlin wants to sweep but no luck.
Tate working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Tate has gone for a leg lock! McLoughlin slips out almost immediately though and dives into Tate's guard.


McLoughlin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Tate has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, McLoughlin has managed to get both his arms back between Tate's legs - danger averted.

Jeremiah McLoughlin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well McLoughlin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
