PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Trei Bishop (ranked 1408 p4p, 383 weight class) and Tolgot Tochukwu (ranked 120 p4p, 34 weight class). Bishop comes into the arena with Mos Def - Auditorium blaring out of the sound system. Both these fighters are unbeaten, so somebody's 0 has got to go!Tolgot Tochukwu told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Trei Bishop!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tolgot Tochukwu!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Steven Brown and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bishop gets a takedown into half guard.
Tochukwu tries to get to full guard but Bishop has control of the leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tochukwu makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Tochukwu.
Tochukwu bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bishop's guard.

Bishop looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Tochukwu puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bishop is looking for a sweep. Tochukwu is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bishop has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Tochukwu escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Tochukwu!
Tochukwu controls the position.
Bishop tries to buck Tochukwu off but Tochukwu is having none of it.
Tochukwu just content to control the position.
Tochukwu gets to mount! Bishop was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bishop is in all sorts of trouble here.
Tochukwu takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Bishop's coaches at Kitano Fight Gym have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Tochukwu is riding his opponent, not letting Bishop buck him off.
Bishop rolls, trying to escape but Tochukwu keeps control of the position.
Tochukwu is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Bishop tries to escape the position.
Tochukwu trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Bishop doesn't escape.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Tolgot Tochukwu dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Bishop darts in and clinches Tochukwu up against the cage.

Bishop gets a trip takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bishop thows a huge punch but Tochukwu dodges it nicely.

Tochukwu actively working from the bottom here.
Tochukwu makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Tochukwu.

Tochukwu is looking to cinch up a triangle. Bishop throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Tochukwu's body to avoid the submission. Tochukwu has instead reached around Bishop's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Tochukwu arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Tolgot Tochukwu!
Tolgot Tochukwu is the new featherweight champion!
An out of breath Tolgot Tochukwu thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
