The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Powell circles away from the clinch attempt.
Powell swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Ronaldo Gomes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gomes cracks Powell with a right hand to the side of the head.
Powell swats away the attempt to clinch by Gomes.
Powell steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Gomes.

and Powell counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Gomes shoots and misses
and Powell counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Powell counters with a crisp right hand that drops Gomes! Powell lets Gomes back up to his feet, looking for a finish!

It looks like Ronaldo Gomes has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gomes keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Gomes tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Powell manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
A little feinted left hand from Powell on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Gomes takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Oooooh!!! Powell has knocked Gomes down with a huge combo! Powell steps away and waves a wobbly Gomes back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
