PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Captain Blood (ranked 2527 p4p, 1042 weight class) and Charles Traynor (ranked 275 p4p, 141 weight class). Traynor has chosen Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Captain Blood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Charles Traynor!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Illya Tyunina and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Blood swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Traynor counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Traynor defending well as Blood loads up on a big left hand.

Blood feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Blood throwing strikes but missing.
Blood throws a strike but Traynor rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Blood wants to improve his position but instead Traynor has moved into half guard.
Blood is looking for a sweep. Traynor is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Traynor passes to side control.
Traynor in side control, just content to control the action for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Traynor stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Blood cracks Traynor with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Blood dodges the punch combination from Traynor.
A quick step to the side and Blood tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Blood throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Traynor doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Traynor ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Traynor jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Blood pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Traynor back to the cage. Blood follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Traynor is looking to clinch.
A slow jab from Blood misses its intended target.
Blood steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Traynor.
Blood scores with a decent looking hook.
Blood uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Traynor.
Traynor fails with an attempt to clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Traynor scores with a sloppy right hand. Blood should have avoided that one.
Blood staying out of range there.
Blood misses with an uppercut

and Traynor counters with a big uppercut that knocks Blood off his feet! Traynor dives into side control looking to finish!

Blood is rocked!
Blood manages to work his way to half guard, despite Traynor's best efforts.
Blood wants to improve his position but Traynor is controlling well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Blood missing with punches from the bottom.

Traynor stands up from half guard.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Traynor doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
A frustrated look appears on Blood's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Traynor tries to work over Blood's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Traynor digs a right hand into Blood's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Blood's gas tank.
Traynor lands an elbow inside.

I was talking to Blood's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Traynor gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

It looks like Captain Blood has been cut.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Traynor.
Traynor tries to throw a body punch but Blood avoids it by throwing Traynor back against the cage.

Blood breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Blood fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Traynor manages to avoid it.
Traynor walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Traynor looks to land a combination but Blood avoids it well.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Captain Blood seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Traynor bobbing and weaving well here. And he's unloaded with a massive right hand that drops Blood! He dives into his guard looking to finish!
Oh Blood is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Traynor decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Blood, up you get!
Charles Traynor is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Traynor throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Traynor ducks under a wild hook from Blood.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Traynor throws an overhand right that drops Blood like a sack of potatoes! Traynor dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!
