PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between tiago alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex McCrimmon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Alex McCrimmon was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Richard Clark and James Ackerman.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
alves blocks a head kick by McCrimmon.
alves lands with a kick to the temple. McCrimmon shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

McCrimmon closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

McCrimmon working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
McCrimmon has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for alves!
alves is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
alves is desperately trying to improve his position but McCrimmon has a good base and remains in mount.
McCrimmon controlling his opponent.
alves knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McCrimmon on the ground.
You get the feeling that alves really doesn't like being in this position too much.

McCrimmon has hold of alves's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and alves manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

McCrimmon is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, alves has managed to escape the submission attempt.
alves really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
alves really wants to buck McCrimmon off and get back to his feet.

McCrimmon working for a guillotine from mount but alves is in no mood to give up.

McCrimmon won't let alves get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

McCrimmon is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But alves has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from alves!

alves stands and steps away. McCrimmon gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
alves's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and alves duly obliges.
alves looks to land a combination. McCrimmon sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
A head kick from alves lands but McCrimmon takes it in his stride.
alves lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

McCrimmon takes a head kick and keeps coming.

alves clinches up with McCrimmon and pushes him back against the cage.
alves wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
McCrimmon tries for a takedown but alves manages to get underhooks.
alves is trying to drag McCrimmon to the mat but McCrimmon just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McCrimmon wants to control from the top but alves keeps moving.
McCrimmon is pushing down on alves's leg trying to pass to half guard. alves is fighting to maintain full guard but McCrimmon has managed to sneak the leg through.

alves is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but McCrimmon pulls his head out easily.

McCrimmon is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. alves doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time McCrimmon.
alves pushes McCrimmon off looking to stand but McCrimmon dives back in and keeps control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

McCrimmon is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. alves doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time McCrimmon.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

alves throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent McCrimmon stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

McCrimmon shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

alves is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

McCrimmon goes for an armbar but alves turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from alves.
McCrimmon wants to sweep here but alves controlling him for the moment.

alves would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

alves escapes and gets back to his feet.

A slapping body kick lands there for alves.
McCrimmon takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
alves works over McCrimmon's head and body with a nice combination.

alves has managed to clinch.
alves drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

McCrimmon gets control of alves's arms and successfully pulls guard. McCrimmon will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

McCrimmon wants to improve his position but instead alves has moved into half guard.

alves wants to take a breather but McCrimmon is having none of it.

alves is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so McCrimmon is just riding it out for now. alves eventually gives up the hold.
McCrimmon gets back to full guard.
McCrimmon is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

alves stands up and waves to McCrimmon to follow him.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

alves drives through and clinches with McCrimmon against the cage.
alves has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
McCrimmon keeps the fight in the clinch, despite alves's efforts to push away.
alves stops a takedown attempt from McCrimmon.

McCrimmon pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
McCrimmon shoots for a double leg takedown but alves sprawls well. He's pushed McCrimmon's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
alves lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
alves works over McCrimmon's head and body with a nice combination.
alves lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as McCrimmon backs up against the cage.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
McCrimmon misses with a hook to the ribs.
McCrimmon drops down looking for an ankle pick but alves pulls his leg out and moves away.
tiago alves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex McCrimmon.

alves bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

tiago alves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
alves stuffs the takedown attempt from McCrimmon. McCrimmon gets slowly back to his feet.
alves fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
McCrimmon throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around alves's waist but alves gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McCrimmon off to one side.

alves trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

McCrimmon is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but alves is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

McCrimmon has alves pressed against the cage, preventing alves from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
McCrimmon tries a knee to the head but alves blocks it.

A frustrated look appears on alves's face as he tries to break the clinch.
McCrimmon is looking for a takedown up against the cage. alves gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
McCrimmon jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as alves walks away with a smile on his face. McCrimmon gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Good leg kick by alves there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Alex McCrimmon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for alves, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
