PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kamil Marek (ranked 407 p4p, 309 weight class) and Linkavitch Chomofsky (ranked 56 p4p, 42 weight class). Chomofsky has chosen Mastodon - Sleeping Giant as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kamil Marek!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Linkavitch Chomofsky!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Russell Pearce and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chomofsky fails with a takedown attempt.
A little feinted left hand from Marek on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Chomofsky scores with a jab to the body.
Chomofsky gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Chomofsky swats away the attempt to clinch by Marek.

Chomofsky cracks Marek with a good jab.

Chomofsky throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Marek tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Chomofsky is in Marek's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Marek is trying to keep Chomofsky in close.
Chomofsky trying to control but Marek is working from the bottom.
Marek wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Chomofsky got a little sloppy there for a moment and Marek has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Chomofsky has managed to get both his arms back between Marek's legs - danger averted.
Chomofsky wants to pass the guard but Marek is keeping the position.
Marek is trying to control the position from the bottom.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Marek can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Chomofsky controls the pace.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Chomofsky is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Marek's half guard.

Chomofsky tries to pass the half guard into mount. Marek knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Marek throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Chomofsky escapes and throws Marek's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Chomofsky is looking to take a break and control but Marek is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Marek is looking for a sweep.
Chomofsky controls the position.
Marek regains half guard there - taking advantage of Chomofsky's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chomofsky working over Marek with some ground and pound. Marek looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Chomofsky is looking for a kimura but Marek is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Chomofsky to get the leverage.

Chomofsky frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Chomofsky looking to control but Marek is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Marek tries to hold on but Chomofsky pushes him away.
Marek can't escape the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Chomofsky lands a couple of good shots and Marek has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Chomofsky tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Marek defends well and Chomofsky ends up having to push Marek into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
It looked like Marek wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Marek slaps away a takedown attempt from Chomofsky, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Chomofsky stuns Marek with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Chomofsky misses with a takedown attempt - Marek sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Kamil Marek has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Linkavitch Chomofsky.

Chomofsky looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Marek lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Linkavitch Chomofsky seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Chomofsky tries to score a power double leg takedown but Marek sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Chomofsky somewhat.

Chomofsky throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Nice takedown defense from Marek. No joy for Chomofsky on that attempt.

Chomofsky uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Marek.

Marek throws out a loose jab but Chomofsky uses good head movement to avoid it.
Chomofsky avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Chomofsky misses with a hook.
Chomofsky misses with a shot to the body
and Marek cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Chomofsky throws a body punch but Marek moves out of range.
Chomofsky doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Chomofsky bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Marek's head backwards.

Chomofsky fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Marek sprawls well initially but Chomofsky persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Chomofsky looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Marek with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Marek bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

That was a close second round but I would say that Kamil Marek will probably get the nod.

Oh but Marek is tightening it up a little... Chomofsky has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Chomofsky reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Chomofsky taps out! Nice BJJ there by Marek!
