PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Brock Breaker (ranked 4099 p4p, 4111 weight class) and Chain Gables (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brock Breaker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chain Gables!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Ryoma Takatsuka and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gables gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Breaker breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Gables fails with the takedown

and Breaker counters by moving into the clinch.
Gables keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Breaker's efforts to push away.

Gables pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Gables drives through with a takedown into guard.

Breaker pushes Gables off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Gables dives in for a single leg takedown but Breaker sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Breaker throws a lazy head kick

and Gables counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Gables.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Gables turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Breaker pushes Gables away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Gables gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Breaker is looking to reverse the position.

Gables thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Breaker sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Gables not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Gables looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Breaker is trying to get back to full guard.
Breaker tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Gables manages to move to mount!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Breaker wants to get back to his feet.
Gables is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.
Gables trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Breaker could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Breaker is desperately trying to improve his position but Gables has a good base and remains in mount.
Gables trying to control but Breaker is having none of it.
Breaker is looking to get to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Breaker suckers Gables into throwing a sloppy strike and uses the momentum to reverse the position beautifully! Breaker is now in Gables's guard!
Breaker wants to control from the top but Gables keeps moving.
Gables pulls Breaker in close to prevent any damage.
Gables looking for a sweep. Not yet Gables, not yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Gables being controlled here, momentarily.
Breaker looking to sit in guard and control but Gables gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Gables is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Breaker trying to control the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gables in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Chain Gables will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Breaker tries to keep at a distance but Gables has taken the fight into the clinch.

Breaker decides to pull guard.
Breaker is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Breaker throws his legs up looking for a submission but Gables uses it to pass to side control.
A lull in the action here as Gables stalls from top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Breaker is looking to reverse the position.
Breaker wants to control but Gables postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Breaker is not content to let Gables control the position.
Gables lands a nice forearm strike.
Gables trying to control the action but Breaker is working from the bottom.
Gables wants to stand but Breaker is controlling his arm.
Breaker is trying to improve his position.
Breaker is trying to control Gables's posture but Gables avoids it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Breaker takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Breaker struggling a bit here.

Gables goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Breaker rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Gables's guard! Nice work there by Breaker!
Gables pulls Breaker in to control the position.
Gables wants to sweep here but Breaker controlling him for the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gables is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Gables keeping moving, preventing Breaker from controlling successfully.
Breaker postures up.
Gables looking for a sweep. Not yet Gables, not yet.
Breaker trying to control the position from guard on top but Gables is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Gables closes the distance and clinches up with Breaker, looking for a takedown. Gables pushes Breaker against the cage but Breaker circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Brock Breaker is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Breaker misses with a head kick.
Gables shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Breaker as he jumps to the side.
Gables is breathing heavily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Gables tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
It looked like Breaker wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Breaker closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Gables's guard.
Gables wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Breaker is now in half guard.

Breaker seems to be looking for submissions.
Gables has hold of Breaker's hands but Breaker slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Gables is trying to control but can't.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Breaker is looking to take a break and control but Gables is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Gables is looking for a sweep. Breaker is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Brock Breaker dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Nice takedown defense from Breaker. No joy for Gables on that attempt.
Gables misses with a wild body shot.

Gables fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Breaker to the ground. Gables is now in Breaker's guard.
Breaker is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Gables dives into side control.
Chain Gables has got the better of the ground game so far.

Breaker is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Gables has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Breaker manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Breaker is refusing to be controlled, as Gables sits in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Gables lands a nice short elbow.
Breaker is looking to improve his position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gables is thwarting Breaker's attempts to control the position.

Breaker is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gables pulls his head out easily.
Breaker trying to control here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Gables stalling.
Breaker tries to roll over but Gables keeps him under control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gables tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Gables is trying to control. Breaker wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Breaker leaves Gables with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Gables bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Breaker sneaks back into half guard.
Gables controlling the action here.
Breaker tries to kick Gables off but Gables keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Breaker is not content to let Gables control the position.
Breaker keeping hold of Gables's head, controlling as best he can.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gables tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Breaker.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Breaker wants to control but Gables is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Breaker tries to clinch there but Gables circles away.
Breaker throws a big shot that misses.
No joy there for Gables, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
As Gables tries to get set, Breaker tries to push him back and clinch up but Gables manages to avoid the attempt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Gables has taken the fight to the clinch.

Gables gets control of Breaker's arms and successfully pulls guard. Gables will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Breaker wants to get up but he can't break Gables's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Chain Gables comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Gables has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
