Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matheus Costa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renato Kobayashi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Renato Kobayashi enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matheus Costa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Renato Kobayashi!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Daniel Cesar and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Costa is looking to clinch but Kobayashi is avoiding it.
Kobayashi ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Nice takedown defense from Kobayashi. No joy for Costa on that attempt.
Costa throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Matheus Costa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kobayashi moves in looking to clinch but Costa pushes him off.

Costa looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Kobayashi!
Costa breaks from Kobayashi's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Costa swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Kobayashi is now in Costa's guard. A big mistake from Costa there, giving up the dominant position!

Kobayashi won't allow Costa to get back to his feet.

Costa tries to clinch but Kobayashi is having none of it.

Kobayashi has Costa pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Costa manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Kobayashi jumps guard but Costa stands there with Kobayashi around his waist. Kobayashi gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Costa breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Kobayashi shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Costa as he jumps to the side.
Matheus Costa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Renato Kobayashi.
No luck for Costa with that takedown attempt.
Costa is breathing heavily.

Kobayashi feints and as Costa raises his hands in defense, Kobayashi changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Kobayashi working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Kobayashi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Costa swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Costa looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Kobayashi puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Kobayashi seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

and Kobayashi counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kobayashi wants to get up but he can't break Costa's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Costa tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Kobayashi counters with a nice double leg into side control. Costa won't be happy with that.

Kobayashi tries to advance position but instead Costa slips a leg back in to half guard.
Costa is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kobayashi's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kobayashi's back!
Can Kobayashi hold on?! Costa is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
Kobayashi takes a big shot to the side of the head.

Costa has Kobayashi flattened out and is raining down punches.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kobayashi wants to escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Renato Kobayashi dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

It looks like Kobayashi is going to stand back up.

Kobayashi avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

and Costa decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kobayashi's guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kobayashi is trying to break free.

Costa lands a takedown into guard.

Kobayashi looking for a guillotine here but Costa defends easily.
Costa with a flurry of punches that miss.

Costa stands up over Kobayashi, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Costa throws a strike but Kobayashi rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Costa will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Costa fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kobayashi, pushing him back against the cage.

Costa's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Kobayashi tries for a takedown but Costa circles away easily
and Costa counters with a left and a right that stings Kobayashi.
Kobayashi swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Costa moves into the clinch.
Kobayashi wants to get back to striking at distance but Costa won't allow it.

Kobayashi manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Costa scoring with some ground and pound.
Costa chips away with some ground and pound.
Kobayashi is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kobayashi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kobayashi is working for takedown but Costa is calmly controlling the position for now.
Kobayashi goes for a takedown attempt but Costa pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Costa changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kobayashi looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Costa tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Kobayashi manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Costa drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Costa jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Well Costa has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
