PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mikael Oja (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akira Filipunaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mikael Oja!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Akira Filipunaki!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oja tries a head kick but it misses.
Filipunaki swats away the attempt to clinch by Oja.
Oja tries to clinch there but Filipunaki circles away.

Filipunaki darts in and clinches Oja up against the cage.
Oja with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Oja breaks from the clinch.
Oja misses with a low kick.

Filipunaki drives through with a takedown into guard.
Filipunaki lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Filipunaki missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Oja working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Filipunaki.
Filipunaki with a nice head shot there.
Filipunaki trying to control but Oja is working from the bottom.
Oja trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Oja is looking to stand up but Filipunaki isn't so interested in that idea.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Filipunaki working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Oja is on top in guard.

Filipunaki kicks Oja off and gets to his feet.
Oja misses with a series of wild punches.
Oja tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Oja buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Oja wants to clinch but Filipunaki slips to the side

so Filipunaki counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Filipunaki gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Oja shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Filipunaki pinned against the cage. Filipunaki gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Oja bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Horrible takedown by Filipunaki or perhaps it was just good defense by Oja which made him look bad.

Oja has Filipunaki up against the cage in a clinch.
Oja is trying to break free.
Filipunaki wants to get back to striking at distance but Oja won't allow it.

Oja breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Filipunaki misses with a takedown

and Oja counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Oja.
Filipunaki looks gassed!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Filipunaki is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Oja gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Mikael Oja has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Akira Filipunaki.
Filipunaki on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Oja lands a shoulder strike.
Filipunaki prevents Oja from breaking the clinch.
Filipunaki prevents Oja from breaking the clinch.
Oja scores a nice knee to the body.

Filipunaki breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Filipunaki doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Oja counters with a slapping leg kick.

Oja has closed the distance and engaged Filipunaki in a clinch.
Filipunaki is trying to break free.

Oja manages to break the clinch.

Oja gets a clinch.

Oja breaks the clinch.
Filipunaki tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Oja swivels and escapes.

Oja forces Filipunaki back against the cage and clinches.
Oja wants to get back to striking at distance but Filipunaki won't allow it.

Filipunaki breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Filipunaki lands with a big left! Oja is wobbled badly! Filipunaki comes in with a flurry of punches and drops Oja to the floor. The ref jumps in to save him from unneccessary punishment.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Akira Filipunaki!
