PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Meebly Gibbersnout (ranked 2949 p4p, 2708 weight class) and Dwight Schrute (ranked 328 p4p, 305 weight class). Gibbersnout comes to the cage accompanied by Purge announcement. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Meebly Gibbersnout!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dwight Schrute!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Steven Brown and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schrute throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Gibbersnout sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Schrute displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Gibbersnout.
Gibbersnout ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Gibbersnout shoots in for a takedown but Schrute shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Dwight Schrute seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gibbersnout shoots in looking for a takedown. Schrute tries to sprawl out of it but Gibbersnout keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Schrute manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Meebly Gibbersnout. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gibbersnout avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Gibbersnout tries to move into range but Schrute moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Schrute throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Schrute avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Gibbersnout has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Gibbersnout drops back, looking for a kneebar! Schrute looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Schrute looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Schrute!

Schrute throws an elbow but Gibbersnout slips to the side and avoids it well.
Schrute creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Gibbersnout sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Gibbersnout is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Schrute off and has taken his back!

Gibbersnout has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Schrute has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Schrute has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Gibbersnout.

Gibbersnout is looking for a choke. Schrute gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Schrute manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gibbersnout has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Schrute can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Gibbersnout is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Schrute is trying to get back to full guard.

Gibbersnout is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Schrute is looking for a sweep. Gibbersnout is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Schrute is looking to control Gibbersnout's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Schrute avoid being mounted?

Gibbersnout wants to work for an arm triangle but Schrute is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Gibbersnout definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

A determined Meebly Gibbersnout didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
