Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dimebag Abbot (ranked 2842 p4p, 1864 weight class) and Piston Honda Jr (ranked 318 p4p, 206 weight class). Honda Jr comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Punch Out Theme kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dimebag Abbot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Piston Honda Jr!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Jonathan Paton and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abbot misses with a looping right.
Honda Jr looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Abbot swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Honda Jr.
A jab from Abbot finds it's way through Honda Jr's defenses.
A punch lands to the side of Abbot 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Abbot misses with a wild combination.
Abbot rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Honda Jr counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Abbot moves into the clinch.
I was talking to Abbot's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Abbot tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Honda Jr's elbow.
Abbot tries to throw a body punch but Honda Jr avoids it by throwing Abbot back against the cage.

Abbot has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Honda Jr uses from the top position.

Abbot escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Honda Jr gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Honda Jr must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Honda Jr is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Honda Jr got a little sloppy there for a moment and Abbot has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Honda Jr has managed to get both his arms back between Abbot's legs - danger averted.
Honda Jr wants to control from the top but Abbot keeps moving.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Abbot misses with a straight right.
Abbot throws a lazy right hand but Honda Jr sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Abbot loads up on a big right hand but Honda Jr slips the punch.
Abbot missing with a left hand there. Honda Jr was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Abbot closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Abbot lands in his opponent's guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Honda Jr cracks a nice hook into Abbot's ribs.
Dimebag Abbot seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Abbot looks to score with a jab to the body but Honda Jr is just out of range.

Honda Jr throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Honda Jr paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Abbot throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Honda Jr sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Honda Jr tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Abbot was well out of range. Poor timing from Honda Jr.
Piston Honda Jr seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Honda Jr misses with a two punch combination.
Abbot throwing a counter right hand but Honda Jr manages to avoid it.
Abbot bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
It looked like Abbot wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Abbot is looking to clinch but Honda Jr is avoiding it.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Honda Jr uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Abbot.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Honda Jr! But no joy.
Honda Jr ducks under a wild hook from Abbot.

Honda Jr lands a big right hand that sends Abbot crashing to the mat! Honda Jr stays standing though and waves Abbot back to his feet!

Abbot is rocked!

It looks like Dimebag Abbot has been cut.

Oh Abbot is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Abbot changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Honda Jr looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Abbot is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Honda Jr knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Abbot seems to have got his legs back now.
Honda Jr is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Abbot tries to advance to mount but Honda Jr denies him.

Honda Jr is trying to improve his position.
Abbot remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Honda Jr is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.

Abbot thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Piston Honda Jr showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

enabling Honda Jr to counter with a crisp jab.
