PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Choccy Skillen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marc Emery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Choccy Skillen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marc Emery!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Daniel Franklin and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Skillen closes this distance looking for a takedown but Emery circles away.
Emery dives in and grabs Skillen's left leg, looking for a takedown. Skillen pushes down on Emery's head and hops out.

and Emery counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Skillen is looking to escape.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Emery connects with a nice short shot to Skillen's temple.
Emery drops an elbow to the side of Skillen's head.
Emery not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Emery prevents Skillen from standing back up.
Emery takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Emery working over Skillen with some ground and pound. Skillen looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Emery throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Emery looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Skillen with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Skillen wants to get back to full guard.

Skillen is looking to control Emery's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Skillen avoid being mounted?

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Emery counters with a single leg into guard. Skillen didn't expect that.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Choccy Skillen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Emery connects with a couple of short punches.
Emery working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Skillen's head.
Emeryis looking to pass into half guard but Skillen pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Skillen is in guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Skillen wants to stand and escape but instead Emery has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Emery lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Emery lands with a hook. Skillen tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Emery connects with a nice short shot to Skillen's temple.

Skillen is trying to control but Emery passes into side control!
Skillen tries to buck Emery off but Emery is having none of it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Emery in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Emery cracks Skillen with a big right hand but Skillen just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Check out the look on Emery's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Emery looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Marc Emery showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Skillen with a poor takedown

and Emery decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Skillen's guard.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Skillen wants to improve his position but instead Emery has moved into half guard.

Skillen is trying to control but Emery passes into side control!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Emery cracks Skillen with a big right hand but Skillen just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Skillen wants to control but Emery postures up.
Skillen tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Emery wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Emery scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Skillen to see if he's OK.
Skillen is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Emery shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Skillen as he jumps to the side.

Skillen is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Emery's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Emery's back!

That's time! Skillen's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Emery throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Skillen was covering up waiting for the punch and Emery finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Skillen is looking for a triangle here but Emery uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.

Skillen is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Emery off and has taken his back!

Skillen is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Emery is defending well though. Skillen let's go of the attempt for now.

Skillen is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Emery knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Emery for a finish.
Emery is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Emery will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Skillen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Emery wants to sweep here but Skillen controlling him for the moment.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Skillen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Skillen trying to control the position from guard on top but Emery is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Skillen wants to get up but he can't break Emery's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Emery manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Skillen manages to get himself to full guard.
Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

Skillen wants to sweep here but Emery controlling him for the moment.

Skillen is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Emery stands up over Skillen, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Skillen is looking for a triangle but Emery pushes his legs off easily.
Skillen lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Emery!
Emery wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Skillen.
Choccy Skillen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Marc Emery is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Skillen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Skillen throws some wild stikes that Emery manages to avoid easily.

Well Emery has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
