PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Chris Suns (ranked 25325 p4p, 5625 weight class) and Armando Stephens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stephens has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Armando Stephens is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Suns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Armando Stephens!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Dillan Fox and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Suns rushes Stephens and presses him up against the cage.

Stephens fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Suns has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Stephens is trying to keep an underhook but Suns manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Suns is looking for a kimura here.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Suns working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Suns wants to work for an arm triangle but Stephens is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Stephens is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Suns scores with a couple of nice shots.

Suns is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Stephens is just riding it out for now. Suns eventually gives up the hold.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Suns is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Stephens defends it well.

Suns working over Stephens with some ground and pound. Stephens looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Suns perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Suns drops an elbow to the side of Stephens's head.

Suns takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Suns is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Suns has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Suns stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Stephens to get to his feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Suns seems keen to control Stephens's posture.

Stephens drops back looking for a leg! Suns is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Suns manages to kick Stephens off! Stephens jumps back into Suns's guard.
Suns pulls Stephens in close to prevent any damage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Suns is looking for a triangle but Stephens pushes his legs off easily.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Suns throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Stephens tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Suns is in Stephens's guard.

Suns drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Suns jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Suns knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Stephens on the ground.

Suns stands up from Stephens's guard - Suns perhaps looking for a knockout.

Suns drives through and clinches with Stephens against the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Suns breaks from the clinch.
Chris Suns is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Suns has managed to clinch.

Suns has Stephens pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Suns pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Stephens tumbling to the mat - Suns dives into Stephens's guard.

Stephens had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Suns defends it easily.

Suns makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Suns seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Stephens is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Suns defends well.

Suns working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Stephens's head.

Suns not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Suns has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Suns got a little sloppy there for a moment and Stephens has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Suns has managed to get both his arms back between Stephens's legs - danger averted.
Suns content to stall in guard here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Suns is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Stephens can't fight it off and eventually Suns manages to take the fight to the floor. Stephens looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Suns seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Stephens working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Suns doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Suns manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Suns's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Stephens walks into a stiff left hand from Suns.

Suns darts in and clinches Stephens up against the cage.
Suns lands a right hand.

Suns breaks the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stephens closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Stephens is rocked!
Stephens takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Suns lands with a right and another and another! Stephens is in big trouble! Suns lands again and this time it's lights out for Stephens! A quality knockout there for Suns.
