PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Feliks Petrov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Uli Vos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Uli Vos was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Feliks Petrov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Uli Vos!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Vladimir Khabensky and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Vos misses.
Nice defenses there by Vos.
A jab from Petrov misses.

Petrov gets a takedown into half guard.
Vos is looking for a sweep. Petrov is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Vos manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Vos looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Vos missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Petrov seems keen to control Vos's posture.
Petrov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Vos tries to free his leg and advance position but Petrov is retaining full guard.

Petrov throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Petrov wants to improve his position but instead Vos has moved into half guard.
Petrov is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Petrov gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Vos counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Petrov has momentary wrist control but Vos slips an elbow through the middle.
Petrov is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Petrov is breathing heavily.

Vos wants to control from the top but Petrov keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vos pushing down on Petrov's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Petrov is controlling Vos's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Petrov wants to control but Vos is keeping busy.
Petrov knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Vos on the ground.
Petrov tries to roll over but Vos keeps him under control.

Petrov is not content to let Vos control the position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Petrov trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Vos controlling the pace for now.
Petrov wants to control but Vos is having none of it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Petrov tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Vos controlling from mount.
Petrov manages to regain half guard. Good work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Uli Vos dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Vos will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Vos doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Petrov counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Vos jumps guard but Petrov stands there with Vos around his waist. Vos gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Vos is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Petrov pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Feliks Petrov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Uli Vos.

Petrov pulls guard.

Petrov had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Vos is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Petrov Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Vos's back instead.
Vos just trying to survive but Petrov is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Petrov is trying to stick to Vos's back but Vos is turning into Petrov. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Petrov's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Vos.

Vos stopping the sweep attempt from Petrov.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Petrov seems keen to control Vos's posture.
Vos wants to control from the top but Petrov keeps moving.

Petrov has his feet on Vos's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Vos closes the distance but Petrov moves to the side

and Petrov counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Petrov gets to his feet - Vos follows without any prompting.
Vos has his takedown stuffed

and Petrov counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Vos bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Petrov's guard.
Vos advances to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vos trying to control from Petrov's half guard. Petrov has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Vos trying to control the position from guard on top but Petrov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Petrov wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Vos is now in half guard.

Vos seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Petrov does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Feliks Petrov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Petrov looks like he's trying to stand up.
Vos missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Vos misses with a takedown

and Petrov counters by clinching up.

Petrov has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Vos uses from the top position.
Petrov controls Vos momentarily but Vos frees himself.
Petrov wants to control the position but Vos says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Vos lands a nice shot to the body.
Petrov takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Petrov tries to clinch up.
Vos shoots in but Petrov avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Petrov keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Petrov closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Vos is looking to improve his position.
Vos moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Vos pushes Petrov off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Petrov clinches with his opponent.
Come on Vos - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Petrov breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Vos closes the distance looking to clinch

and Petrov counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Petrov.
Vos tries to score a body lock takedown but Petrov shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Feliks Petrov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Uli Vos.

Petrov breaks the clinch.

Petrov scores a takedown into full mount!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vos is trying to escape the mount.
Petrov throwing strikes here but Vos is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Petrov is stalling here but it's allowed Vos to get half guard.
Petrov stalling away here and it's allowed Vos to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Vos working a defensive guard here.

Vos is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Vos is trying to control the position but Petrov postures up.
Vos keeping moving, preventing Petrov from controlling successfully.
Vos looking to control.
Petrov has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Vos trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Petrov wants to stand and escape but instead Vos has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Vos stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Petrov swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Vos wants to control from the top but Petrov keeps moving.
Vos tries to stand but Petrov is controlling from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Petrov.
Vos is not content to let Petrov control the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Feliks Petrov showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Petrov has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
