PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Choke (ranked 64 p4p, 220 weight class) and Ralph McGuire (ranked 8 p4p, 34 weight class). McGuire has chosen Confederate Railroad - Daddy Never Was The Cadillac Kind as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 18 - 1, fighting out of London, David Choke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 37 - 16 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ralph McGuire!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Steven Brown and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGuire throws a good cross that connects.
Choke looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
McGuire misses with a looping right.
Ralph McGuire seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Choke shoots in looking for a takedown. McGuire tries to sprawl out of it but Choke keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. McGuire manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Choke looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Choke wants to work for an arm triangle but McGuire is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Choke goes for an armbar but McGuire turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from McGuire.

McGuire got a little sloppy there for a moment and Choke has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, McGuire has managed to get both his arms back between Choke's legs - danger averted.

McGuire decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Choke, up you get!

McGuire manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Choke shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Choke was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Ralph McGuire showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!

McGuire swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
McGuire stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and McGuire wants it to stay on the feet.
McGuire appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

McGuire drops Choke with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Choke looks back up at him and smiles so McGuire waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

Choke is rocked!

It looks like David Choke has been cut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Choke avoids the body shot from McGuire.
Choke was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Oh Choke is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
McGuire misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Choke.

Choke dives in and grabs McGuire's left leg, looking for a takedown. McGuire pushes down on Choke's head and hops out.
Choke bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
McGuire throws a hook to the side of Choke's head but Choke sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

A momentary lapse in concentration from McGuire enables Choke to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. McGuire manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Choke postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! McGuire is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Choke, into his guard.

Choke is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. McGuire is aware though and is defending well.

Ralph McGuire seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts McGuire, as that shot connected.

Choke is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! McGuire is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! McGuire has escaped and now he's on top!


Choke escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. McGuire gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

McGuire gets to his feet - Choke follows without any prompting.

A bone on bone clash there as Choke blocks the leg kick.
McGuire tries a head kick but it misses.
McGuire has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
McGuire swings for the body but Choke moves out of range.
Choke seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
McGuire goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Choke closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into McGuire's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Choke with a flurry of punches that miss.
Choke is looking to advance position but McGuire has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Choke slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ralph McGuire comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think McGuire has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
