Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Zaid Owens (ranked 5074 p4p, 4375 weight class) and Pascal Popper (ranked 556 p4p, 488 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Owens gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Owens dives in and grabs Popper's left leg, looking for a takedown. Popper pushes down on Owens's head and hops out.
Popper lands an overhand right.
It looks like Zaid Owens has been cut.

Owens misses the shot to the body.
Owens shoots in for a takedown but Popper shows good takedown defense.
A little jabbing left from Popper on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Zaid Owens. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Owens has been working on his balance at Cozad The Island, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Popper.

Owens swings for the body but Popper moves out of range.
Popper connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Owens takes one to the side of the head.
Popper scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Owens is rocked!
Popper cracks Owens with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Popper has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Owens to stand back up!
Oh Owens is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Zaid Owens's cut is getting worse.
Popper ducks down into range and throws a picture perfect right hook that connects with Owens's jaw. Owens's eyes stare off into space as he falls to the mat, out cold! Popper does the decent thing and steps back, rather than landing any shots to his unconscious opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Pascal Popper!
