Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Maxim Ward (ranked 1731 p4p, 1246 weight class) and Thufir Hawat (ranked 200 p4p, 157 weight class). Ward comes to the cage accompanied by ERA - Ameno. Thufir Hawat acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Maxim Ward!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Thufir Hawat!
The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Ron Honeybunn and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hawat scores with a nice right hand.
Hawat swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Ward slips a straight right by Hawat.

It looks like Maxim Ward has been cut.

Ward throws a hook to the side of Hawat's head but Hawat sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Ward bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Hawat wants to get back to his feet but Ward is dominant here and he's now got Hawat's back!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hawat tries to escape but Ward has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Ward's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ward throws a leg kick that is checked
and Hawat counters with a nice leg kick.
Hawat tries a head kick but it misses.
Ward fails with an attempt to clinch.
Hawat takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Hawat lands with an overhand left.
Hawat throws a leg kick but Ward checks it.

Ward drives through with a takedown into Hawat's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hawat is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Ward's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Ward's back!
You can see the frustration on Ward's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Hawat slaps away a takedown attempt from Ward, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Ward shoots for a double leg takedown but Hawat sprawls well. He's pushed Ward's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Hawat throws a chopping leg kick but Ward manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Ward takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Maxim Ward.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ward, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
