PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rico Salvacion (ranked 23870 p4p, 24026 weight class) and Tapad Amiga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 36 - 45 - 6, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rico Salvacion!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 55 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tapad Amiga!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Gwen Towbar and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Amiga gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Salvacion counters with a solid body kick.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Amiga enables Salvacion to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Amiga manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Amiga can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Salvacion controls the pace.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Amiga controls Salvacion momentarily but Salvacion frees himself.
Amiga is pulling down on Salvacion's head. It's preventing any offense from Salvacion, at least for the moment.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Salvacion fails with the takedown.
Amiga unleashes a big counter combination but Salvacion bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Salvacion dives in and scores a takedown into Amiga's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Amiga trying to control the position here.
Salvacion controls from within his opponent's guard.
Amiga is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Salvacion not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Amiga working a defensive guard here.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Salvacion controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Rico Salvacion dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

No luck for Amiga with that takedown attempt.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Amiga is defended easily by Salvacion.
Salvacion throws a quick counter kick to the body but Amiga avoids it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Amiga follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Salvacion.
Amiga striking from the bottom but nothing landed.

Salvacion takes a little break here. Amiga wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Amiga tries to improve position but can't.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Amiga can't do much from the bottom here.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Amiga shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Salvacion napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Salvacion struggling a bit here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Salvacion is looking for a sweep.
Amiga controls the position.
Amiga working away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Salvacion is trying to escape the position but Amiga is controlling the position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Salvacion manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Rico Salvacion will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Amiga decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Amiga looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Salvacion is trying to control but can't.
Amiga trying to control from Salvacion's half guard. Salvacion has other ideas though and has regained full guard.

Amiga controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Salvacion defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Amiga.
Salvacion jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Amiga shoots in but no luck this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Salvacion shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Amiga pinned against the cage. Amiga gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Salvacion thuds his shin into the meat of Amiga's side.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Amiga fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Rico Salvacion has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tapad Amiga.
Salvacion shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Amiga flicks out a counter leg kick but Salvacion steps away.

Amiga scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Amiga is trying to control the action in half guard but Salvacion is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Salvacion is controlling Amiga's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Salvacion is trying to control but can't.
Tapad Amiga has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rico Salvacion is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Amiga in particular looking to stall.
Salvacion keeping hold of Amiga's head, controlling as best he can.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tapad Amiga comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Salvacion has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
