PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bubba Bubmeister (ranked 4325 p4p, 4059 weight class) and Seth Baker (ranked 221 p4p, 224 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bubba Bubmeister!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Seth Baker!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baker shoots in for a takedown but Bubmeister shows good takedown defense.
Baker avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Horrible takedown attempt by Bubmeister or perhaps it was just good defense by Baker, which made it look bad.
Bubmeister is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Bubmeister tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Baker defends well and Bubmeister ends up having to push Baker into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Baker has Bubmeister pressed against the cage, preventing Bubmeister from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Baker takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Baker manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
The crowd are getting on Baker's back here. They're not happy about his lack of aggression in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Baker fails to pull guard.

Baker pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Some wild striking there from Bubmeister.

Baker clinches up against the cage.
Bubmeister tries to pull guard but Baker won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bubba Bubmeister. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bubmeister is trying to maintain a safe position but Baker gets an underhook and turns Bubmeister into the cage.
Baker jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Bubmeister walks away with a smile on his face. Baker gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Baker drives through and clinches with Bubmeister against the cage.
Bubmeister tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Baker just stands there and leans against the cage.
Baker is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Bubmeister to keep the fight standing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bubmeister ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Bubmeister no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Baker is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Baker missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Bubmeister is striking but Baker is not phased and passes to half guard.

Bubmeister looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Baker is taking a breather. Bubmeister says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Baker wants to work for an arm triangle but Bubmeister is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Bubmeister really is a fat lump.

Baker stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Baker keeps the fight on the outside.
Bubmeister will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Baker wants to counter the offense by Bubmeister and move into the clinch position.
Baker throws a push kick but Bubmeister slaps the foot to one side.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bubmeister pivots, looking for a leg kick but Baker is out of range and Bubmeister settles back down.

and Baker holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Baker pulls guard successfully.
Baker is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Baker has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bubmeister can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Baker is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Seth Baker dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Bubmeister tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Baker circles away from the clinch attempt.

Baker takes the fight into the clinch.
Baker is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Bubmeister to keep the fight standing.
Baker changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Bubmeister fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Baker moves into the clinch successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Baker has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Bubmeister regains guard immediately.
Baker forces his way into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Baker is controlling the pace.

Baker escapes and gets back to his feet.
Baker keeps the fight on the outside.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bubmeister.

Baker changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bubmeister looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Baker is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Bubmeister is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Baker decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Bubmeister gets tackled into the cage by Baker. Baker maintains the clinch.
Bubmeister manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Baker manages to break the clinch.
Bubmeister closes the distance and clinches up with Baker, looking for a takedown. Bubmeister pushes Baker against the cage but Baker circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Baker shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bubmeister but Bubmeister pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Bubmeister seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Bubba Bubmeister has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Seth Baker.

Baker goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Bubba Bubmeister is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Baker gets a clinch.
Bubmeister gets underhooks to prevent Baker's takedown attempt.
Bubmeister is trying to pull guard but Baker turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Baker breaks from the clinch.

Baker fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Bubmeister to the ground. Baker is now in Bubmeister's guard.

Baker decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Bubmeister, up you get!
Bubmeister tries to clinch up but Baker circles away and keeps his distance.
Bubmeister fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Baker with the counter takedown but Bubmeister avoids it easily.
Horrible takedown attempt by Baker or perhaps it was just good defense by Bubmeister, which made it look bad.

Bubmeister tries for a takedown but Baker sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
A looping hook to the body misses from Baker. Bubmeister does a little dance to reset his feet.
Baker tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Bubmeister swivels and escapes.
Bubmeister fails with a takedown attempt.
Baker looks for a takedown but Bubmeister sprawls well.
Bubmeister throws a big counter combination but Baker scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bubmeister throws a right hand that Baker ducks under and follows up with a left that Baker also avoids with ease.
Baker is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bubmeister sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Baker wants to clinch up but Bubmeister keeps it at a distance.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Seth Baker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Baker jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Bubmeister walks away with a smile on his face. Baker gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Seth Baker seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Baker lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Bubmeister's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Bubmeister lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.

Baker decides to pull guard.

Baker keeping moving, preventing Bubmeister from controlling successfully.

Baker escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bubmeister gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Seth Baker has got the better of the ground game so far.

Baker looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Baker pulls Bubmeister in close to his closed guard and prevents Bubmeister from doing any damage or advancing position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Bubmeister wants to pass the guard but Baker is keeping the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Baker tries to clinch but Bubmeister is having none of it.
Baker closes this distance looking for a takedown but Bubmeister circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Good standup being displayed there by Bubmeister as he connects with a hook.
Seth Baker seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Bubmeister tries a head kick but it misses.
Bubmeister throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
No luck for Baker with that takedown attempt.
Baker has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Bubmeister dives in for a single leg takedown but Baker sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Baker has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Baker is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Bubmeister has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Baker is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Bubba Bubmeister has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Seth Baker is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Baker prevents a body shot from Bubmeister.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Seth Baker.
I've got Baker winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
