The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Voorhees with a poor takedown
and Hippo counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Hippo really is a fat lump.

Voorhees shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Hippo counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Voorhees thinking.

Hippo stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hippo wants it to stay on the feet.

Voorhees changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hippo tries to avoid it but Voorhees manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hippo to the ground. Hippo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Hippo connects with a good right hand that stumbles Voorhees. Voorhees circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Hippo connects with a body shot that sends Voorhees's belly button to the back.

and Hippo counters with a straight right hand.
Hippo lands with a good body shot.
King Hippo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Hippo lands a nice hook to Voorhees's body. Voorhees takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Hippo bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Voorhees's head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Voorhees darts in looking for a takedown but Hippo gets double underhooks and turns Voorhees into the cage.

Voorhees closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Hippo did well to prevent Voorhees getting side control.

Voorhees is keen to just control but Hippo is a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hippo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Voorhees is working away from the top position though.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Hippo is looking to control Voorhees's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hippo avoid being mounted?

Voorhees lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Voorhees has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Hippo has hold of Voorhees's hands but Voorhees slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hippo on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Voorhees working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Voorhees connects with a nice short shot to Hippo's temple.
Voorhees is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Hippo on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hippo tries to get out of the position.

King Hippo dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

It looks like King Hippo has been cut.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Voorhees is defended easily by Hippo.
Hippo throws a big counter combination but Voorhees scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Voorhees tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hippo defends well and Voorhees ends up having to push Hippo into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Jeez, King Hippo's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at King Hippo's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
