PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rashad Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and fergo X (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Evans comes to the cage accompanied by Pursuit of Happiness. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rashad Evans!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, fergo X!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

X scores with a takedown into Evans's guard.
X stopping the sweep attempt from Evans.
X trying to stand up but can't free himself from Evans's guard.
Evans could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
X wants to stand and escape but instead Evans has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
X wants to get back to his feet but Evans is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Evans wants to pass the guard but X is keeping the position.
X is looking to stand back up but Evans counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by X.
Evans prevents X from standing back up.
X is not content to let Evans control the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
X will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

X fails to land with a series of punches.
Evans circles away from the clinch attempt.
Evans takes a swing at X's ribcage but misses.
X shoots for a double leg takedown but Evans sprawls well. He's pushed X's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

fergo X seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
X tries to clinch but Evans moves out of range.
X looks gassed!

Evans closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Evans lands in his opponent's guard.
Evans postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Evans chips away with some ground and pound.

X is working an open guard so Evans takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Evans shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Evans showed some decent athleticism there.
X tries to kick Evans off but Evans keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Evans slips a nice elbow through X's hands, connecting with X's forehead.
Evans lands with a punch from half guard.
X is not content to let Evans control the position.
X on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
X kicks off Evans and gets to his feet.
X tries to close the distance and clinch up but Evans swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Evans closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Evans lands in his opponent's guard.
X is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Evans stands and steps away. X gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
X shoots and misses
letting Evans counter with a right hand.
Rashad Evans has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of fergo X.

Evans rushes X and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Evans prevents X from standing back up.

Evans escapes and gets back to his feet.
X uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Evans.
X closes the distance but Evans moves to the side

and Evans counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
X is trying to stand up here but Evans is controlling him well.

X tries to kick Evans off in order to stand up. Evans Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

and Evans counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
X lands an uppercut.
X has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Evans is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Evans digs a right hand into X's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on X's gas tank.

Evans has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed X clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
X has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


X throws a series of punches but Evans moves out of range.
X throws a right hand that Evans ducks under and follows up with a left that Evans also avoids with ease.
A slow jab from Evans misses its intended target.
X has his takedown stuffed

and Evans counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Evans.
Evans using the Thai plumb to throw knees but X has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Evans lands a takedown into guard.

X scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Evans closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Evans keeps control of X as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Evans is trying to trip X. He has hold of a leg but X is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Evans persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

X wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Evans manages to pass to side control.

Evans misses with a takedown attempt - X sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Evans ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Evans no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Evans is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst X is controlling him.
X must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

X stands up from guard. Let's bang!

X jumps guard and drags Evans to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Evans has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

X really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Evans. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Evans shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says X as he avoids it easily.

and Evans decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in X's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


X tries to clinch but Evans moves out of range.
X throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Evans on the side of the head.

X changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Evans looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Evans is trying to control X's posture but X avoids it.
X blocks the strikes from Evans.
Evans pushes X away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, X gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

X stands up and beckons Evans to his feet.
X shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Evans counters with a nice double leg into side control. X won't be happy with that.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
X is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Evans creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
X is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

X fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Evans, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
