PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Han Seul Kim (ranked 3527 p4p, 3757 weight class) and Rob Punk (ranked 392 p4p, 419 weight class). Rob Punk struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 171.5lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. The key to victory for Han Seul Kim has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rob Punk!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Punk lands a front kick.
Nice takedown defense from Punk. No joy for Kim on that attempt.
And Punk tries to counter it with a takedown but Kim pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Kim has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Kim shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Punk pinned against the ropes. Punk gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kim misses with a series of wild punches.
Punk dives in and grabs Kim's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kim pushes down on Punk's head and hops out.
Punk is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Punk tries for a takedown but Kim sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Kim is trying hard to land a takedown here. Punk sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Punk closes the distance and pushes Kim back into the ropes.

Kim has Punk pressed up against the ropes and is working for takedown. Punk manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Punk ties up his opponent against the ropes and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Punk no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Punk has his foot on Kim's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kim works his way back into a safe position though.
Kim might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Punk is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kim wants to stand and escape but instead Punk has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

The strikes coming from Punk are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Kim avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Punk.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kim stops Punk from passing to mount.

Punk is trying to get an arm triangle but Kim is defending well.
Kim wants to get back to his feet but Punk drags him back down.
Punk creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Kim sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
You can see the frustration on Kim's face as Punk controls the position.

That's five minutes gone in the round.
The ground and pound from Punk seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Punk misses with a takedown attempt - Kim sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Punk shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Punk misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Kim.
Kim throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Kim scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Punk misses with a takedown
and Kim counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Punk is rocked!
Kim fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Kim is breathing heavily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Punk ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Kim fails to land with a series of punches.
Punk fails with a takedown attempt.

That's seven minutes gone in the round.
Kim leaves Punk with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown attempt by Punk or perhaps it was just good defense by Kim, which made it look bad.

Punk dives in and grabs Kim's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kim pushes down on Punk's head and hops out.
Kim is looking for a counter combo.

Kim drops Punk with a left and a right! Oh, Punk is hurt - Kim dives into side control looking to finish!
Punk is still in real trouble! Can Kim finish him?
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Kim stands up and beckons Punk to his feet.
Punk shoots for a double leg takedown but Kim sprawls well. He's pushed Punk's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A low kick from Punk is predictable there
and Kim rattles Punk with a well-timed uppercut counter. - Punk tries to back away and recover but his hands are down low and he gets tagged again, sending him stumbling down to the canvas. Kim dives in after him and quickly finishes the job with a trio of brutal punches, leaving Punk stiff and motionless on the mat!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 7:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Han Seul Kim!
