Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tobias Ahearn (ranked 2001 p4p, 3268 weight class) and Chimzat Khamaev (ranked 0 p4p, 397 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Khamaev's choice of entrance music: Theme Song. Tobias Ahearn has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 10 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tobias Ahearn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Chimzat Khamaev!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Dmitry Maklakov and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slow jab from Khamaev misses its intended target.

Khamaev gets a clinch.
Khamaev blocks an uppercut.
Khamaev tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ahearn smiles and moves away.

Khamaev has Ahearn up against the cage in a clinch.
Ahearn definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Khamaev tries to pull guard but Ahearn holds him up against the cage and eventually Khamaev drops back down to his feet.
Khamaev fails to pull guard.
Tobias Ahearn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chimzat Khamaev.
Ahearn lands with a short shot to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Khamaev tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ahearn smiles and moves away.

It looked like Ahearn wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Nice defenses there by Khamaev.

Khamaev tries to clinch up but Ahearn circles away and keeps his distance.
Khamaev closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Khamaev on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Ahearn stuffs the takedown attempt from Khamaev. Khamaev gets slowly back to his feet.
Ahearn looks to score with a jab to the body but Khamaev is just out of range.

Khamaev closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ahearn did well to prevent Khamaev getting side control.
Khamaev prevents Ahearn from improving his position.
Ahearn knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Khamaev on the ground.
Khamaev throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Ahearn to regain full guard.
Khamaev wants to pass the guard but Ahearn is keeping the position.
Khamaev postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Khamaev looking to sit in guard and control but Ahearn gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Ahearn slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Khamaev tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ahearn engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Khamaev lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Ahearn pulls Khamaev in close to prevent any damage.

Ahearn keeping moving, preventing Khamaev from controlling successfully.

Ahearn seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Khamaev sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Ahearn avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Ahearn holds on and takes a little breather.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Khamaev ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Ahearn misses with a straight left.
Khamaev tries to close the distance and clinch but Ahearn swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A nice combination there by Ahearn.

It looks like Chimzat Khamaev has been cut.
Khamaev throws a body shot but no joy.
Ahearn lands the left hand.

Khamaev is rocked!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Tobias Ahearn dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Chimzat Khamaev's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Khamaev tries to clinch but Ahearn moves out of range.
Khamaev is still on wobbly legs! Can Ahearn finish him?
Ahearn connects with a picture perfect right hand that knocks Khamaev out cold! This one is over in a flash!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:10 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Tobias Ahearn!
Chimzat Khamaev was interviewed post fight and said 'I trained so hard for this fight! I’ll be back! Keel everybody!'.
