PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Colestein Veglin (ranked 3706 p4p, 2680 weight class) and Zakhar Zhitkov (ranked 0 p4p, 317 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Colestein Veglin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Zakhar Zhitkov!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Jeff Smith and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Veglin scores with a shot to the body.
Zhitkov throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Veglin.
Veglin went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Veglin fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Veglin throws a head kick that misses.
Zhitkov is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Veglin with a body shot.
Zhitkov is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Zhitkov shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Veglin's guard.

Zhitkov ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Zhitkov no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Zhitkov controlling the position well here. Veglin rolled but Zhitkov kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Let's hope that Zhitkov has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

I really don't envy Veglin right now.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Colestein Veglin.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Veglin, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
