PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Takanori Dragon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rumina Endo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Takanori Dragon has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Takanori Dragon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rumina Endo!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dragon clinches up against the ropes.

Dragon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Endo avoids the body shot from Dragon.
Endo fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Dragon scores with a one two! Endo had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Endo walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Dragon lands a really nice looking cross but Endo seems unphased.
Dragon bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Endo's head backwards.
Dragon throws a big shot that misses.
Dragon fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Endo manages to avoid it.
Dragon fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Dragon scores with a jab. Endo acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Endo closes the distance and clinches up with Dragon, looking for a takedown. Endo pushes Dragon against the ropes but Dragon circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A combination from Dragon does no damage.
Endo misses with a double jab
and Dragon makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Dragon doesn't manage to clinch there - Endo circles away.
Endo walks into a jab.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dragon throws a right and a left that both miss.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Endo is defended easily by Dragon.
Takanori Dragon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rumina Endo.
Dragon sizes up Endo with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Dragon gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Dragon tries to circle away but Endo has him pinned against the ropes.

Dragon's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Endo takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Endo looks gassed!
Endo keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Dragon's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Dragon duly obliges.
Dragon looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Endo takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Dragon misses with a wild combination.
Endo is trying hard to land a takedown here. Dragon sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dragon bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Endo's head.
Dragon is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Endo is trying desperately to land a takedown but Dragon is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Endo.
Dragon scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Dragon scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Dragon gets a clinch.

Dragon's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Endo keeps the fight on the outside.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Dragon, as that shot connected.
Endo on the wrong end of a nice hook.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Endo tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Dragon counters with a one-two to the body.
Dragon getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Dragon throws a leg kick but Endo moved away.
Rumina Endo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dragon is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Dragon tries to close the distance and clinch up but Endo swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Dragon throws a right and a left that Endo avoids nicely.

Dragon moves into the clinch.
Dragon working hard to break the clinch.
Dragon is trying to force a seperation but Endo has the dominant position.

Dragon manages to break the clinch.
Dragon scores with a hook.
Endo tries to clinch but Dragon is having none of it.

Dragon moves into the clinch.
A right hook to the body lands for Dragon.

Dragon breaks the clinch.
Endo takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
No joy there for Dragon, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A combination from Dragon does no damage.

Dragon finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Takanori Dragon is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Dragon misses with a few strikes there.
Dragon lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Dragon.
Endo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dragon as he avoids it easily.
Dragon scores with the left hand. Endo knows he should have avoided that one.
Dragon fails to land with a series of punches.
Dragon throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
A jab from Dragon does it's job there.
Dragon lands a with a good body shot.
Dragon lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Endo circles away quickly and effectively.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Endo shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Dragon throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Dragon lands with a nice body punch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Takanori Dragon dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Dragon throws a right and a left that both miss.

Dragon clinches up against the ropes.
Endo fails to pull guard.
Dragon tries to break free but Endo pushes him back against the ropes.
Endo is looking to break free of the clinch but Dragon has double underhooks.

Endo decides to pull guard.
Dragon would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Endo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Dragon trying to stand up but can't free himself from Endo's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Endo has his foot on Dragon's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dragon works his way back into a safe position though.
Dragon has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Endo tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Dragon wanted to stand there but Endo had control of the position.
Endo is trying to keep Dragon in close.
Endo trying to strike off his back.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Dragon moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Endo takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Dragon lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Endo circles away quickly and effectively.
Dragon throws a nice inside leg kick.
Dragon motions for Endo to come forward. Dragon throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Endo feints and as Dragon raises his hands in defense, Endo changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Endo slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Endo is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Dragon has escaped the position, nice work there.

Endo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Endo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Endo working the head and body with strikes.

Endo working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Endo just content to control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Dragon is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the ropes but Endo has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Endo tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dragon wants to get back to his feet but Endo drags him back down.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rumina Endo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Endo fails with the takedown
and Dragon counters with a stiff right hand.
A punch combination from Dragon misses.
Dragon swinging wilding here.
Dragon fails to land with a series of punches.
Dragon lands a jab-cross combination.
Dragon cracks Endo with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Endo has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Dragon wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Takanori Dragon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Dragon gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Endo to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Dragon has his feet on Endo's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Dragon throws a jab but it's blocked by Endo.
Endo gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Dragon counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Dragon thuds his right hand into Endo's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Endo chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Dragon can pounce on him.
Endo fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Dragon avoids it really well and circles away.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Endo won't allow Dragon to get back to his feet.
Dragon is wriggling around but Endo manages to pass to half guard.
Dragon looks like he's trying to stand up.

Endo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Dragon is just riding it out for now. Endo eventually gives up the hold.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Endo is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Dragon has managed to free his arm - good work.
Dragon pushes Endo off looking to stand but Endo dives back in and keeps control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Dragon is not content to let Endo control the position.
Dragon on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Dragon tries to get out of the position.
Dragon is looking to escape.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Endo doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Dragon counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Dragon.
Dragon is trying to force a seperation but Endo has the dominant position.
Dragon is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the ropes.
Dragon wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Endo has him pressed against the ropes.
Endo jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Dragon walks away with a smile on his face. Endo gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Endo closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Dragon did well to prevent Endo getting side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Rumina Endo.
I think Endo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
