PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Xxx Xxx (ranked 22862 p4p, 22781 weight class) and Xxx Xxx (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Xxx Xxx told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 99 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xxx Xxx!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 92 - 24 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xxx Xxx!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Daniel Franklin and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Fighter A shoots for a double leg takedown but Fighter B sprawls well. He's pushed Fighter A's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Fighter B is trying to counter with his kicks.
Fighter A has a takedown stuffed.
Fighter B changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Fighter B shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Fighter A manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fighter B content to stall in guard here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fighter A is trying to hold Fighter B in close to prevent damage but Fighter B has managed to pass into half guard.
Fighter A is trying to control but can't.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Fighter B in particular looking to stall.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Fighter A trying to control but Fighter B postures up.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Fighter B is taking a breather. Fighter A says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Nice body kick there by Fighter A.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fighter A shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Fighter B pinned against the cage. Fighter B gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Xxx Xxx. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fighter A throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fighter B's waist but Fighter B gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Fighter A off to one side.

Fighter B looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Fighter A wants to get back to full guard.
Fighter B is looking to advance position but Fighter A won't allow it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fighter A avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Fighter B.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Xxx Xxx dominated that round.
That's time! Fighter A's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Fighter B fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Fighter B misses with a takedown attempt - Fighter A sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
It appears Fighter A was looking to counter with a kick there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fighter B keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fighter A shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Fighter B but Fighter B pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Fighter B with the counter takedown but Fighter A avoids it easily.
Fighter B fails with the takedown.
A counter left hand to the body from Fighter A misses its target.
Xxx Xxx has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Xxx Xxx.

and Fighter B counters with a head kick. That will keep Fighter A thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Fighter A closes the distance and clinches up with Fighter B, looking for a takedown. Fighter A pushes Fighter B against the cage but Fighter B circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Fighter A closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Fighter B did well to prevent Fighter A getting side control.

Fighter B is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Fighter A scores with a couple of nice shots.
Fighter B is trying is best to control the position here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fighter A throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Fighter A prevents Fighter B from improving his position.
Fighter B is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Fighter B wants to get back to full guard.
Fighter A throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Fighter B is trying to control but can't.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Fighter B tries for a takedown but Fighter A sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Fighter B closes this distance looking for a takedown but Fighter A circles away.
Fighter A is looking to counter with a body kick.
Fighter A closes the distance and clinches up with Fighter B, looking for a takedown. Fighter A pushes Fighter B against the cage but Fighter B circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Fighter B feints a counter leg kick.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fighter A shoots in looking for a takedown. Fighter B tries to sprawl out of it but Fighter A keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Fighter B manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Fighter B steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Xxx Xxx dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Fighter B's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Fighter A trying to control from the bottom.
Fighter A is concentrating on defense, preventing Fighter B from advancing position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Fighter A is trying to control but Fighter B passes into side control!
Fighter B remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Fighter B only half commits to the counter leg kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Xxx Xxx. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Fighter B is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Fighter A leaves Fighter B with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Fighter B looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Fighter A!
You can see the frustration on Fighter A's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Xxx Xxx comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Fighter B has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
