PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Denny Danger (ranked 4089 p4p, 3484 weight class) and Connor Hodgson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Denny Danger!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Connor Hodgson!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Colin Fray and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Danger throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Danger feints and as Hodgson raises his hands in defense, Danger changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Hodgson wriggles free and stands up.
Hodgson doesn't manage to clinch there - Danger circles away.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Danger.
Hodgson misses with a takedown attempt
and Danger counters with a straight right hand.
Hodgson misses with a double jab.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hodgson stuffs the takedown attempt from Danger. Danger gets slowly back to his feet.
Danger changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hodgson tries to avoid it but Danger manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hodgson to the ground. Hodgson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hodgson lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Denny Danger. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Danger blocks a head kick by Hodgson.
Horrible takedown attempt by Hodgson or perhaps it was just good defense by Danger, which made it look bad.
Danger tries to close the distance and clinch but Hodgson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hodgson is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Hodgson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Danger but Danger pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Hodgson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Danger paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Danger forces Hodgson back against the cage and clinches.

Danger breaks from the clinch.
Hodgson misses with a lunging right hand

and Danger moves into the clinch.
Danger drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hodgson tries to score a body lock takedown but Danger shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Danger misses with a short punch on the inside.

Hodgson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Danger throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hodgson was covering up waiting for the punch and Danger finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Hodgson is looking to stand back up but Danger counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Hodgson.

Danger prevents Hodgson from improving his position.
Danger is looking to take a break and control but Hodgson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Danger trying to control from Hodgson's half guard. Hodgson has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Danger wants to control from the top but Hodgson keeps moving.

Hodgson trying to keep a closed guard but Danger is proving a slippery customer.

Danger stands and steps away. Hodgson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Hodgson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Danger avoids it really well and circles away.
Nice takedown defense from Hodgson. No joy for Danger on that attempt.

Danger clinches.
Hodgson fails to pull guard.

Danger escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Danger defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Hodgson.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Hodgson enables Danger to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hodgson manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Danger gets to his feet. Hodgson looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Danger scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

It looks like Connor Hodgson has been cut.
Hodgson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Danger.

Hodgson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Danger sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hodgson somewhat.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Danger with a poor takedown

and Hodgson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Danger won't be happy with that.

Hodgson stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Hodgson misses with a head kick.
Hodgson blocks a head kick by Danger.
Danger stalks Hodgson and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Hodgson's face. Hodgson staggers backwards, shaken.
Danger shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Hodgson moves into the clinch.

Hodgson has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Danger regains guard immediately.

Danger has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Hodgson has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Danger is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hodgson can do to turn this around?
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hodgson tries to pull guard but Danger holds him up against the cage and eventually Hodgson drops back down to his feet.

Hodgson has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Danger gets to his feet - Hodgson follows without any prompting.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hodgson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Hodgson leaves Danger with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

and Hodgson counters with a shoot takedown. Danger fights it but they end up in guard.

Danger manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hodgson manages to get himself to full guard.


Hodgson has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Danger has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Danger has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Hodgson uses from the top position.

Hodgson gets to his feet - Danger follows without any prompting.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Danger. Hodgson shrugs it off though.

Danger drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Danger stands and steps away. Hodgson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

and Danger counters with a left and a right that stings Hodgson.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

and Danger takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Hodgson wants to clinch.
Danger lands a high kick!
Danger tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hodgson swivels and escapes.
Hodgson moves out of range as Danger throws a body kick.
Hodgson misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Danger.
Danger shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hodgson defends it nicely.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Denny Danger will probably get the nod.

Danger manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Hodgson keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A solid leg kick lands there for Danger.
Denny Danger is winning the standup battle so far.
Danger tries to clinch but Hodgson moves out of range.
Hodgson is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Hodgson tries to close the distance and clinch but Danger swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Danger shoots for a takedown but Hodgson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Hodgson dives in and grabs Danger's left leg, looking for a takedown. Danger pushes down on Hodgson's head and hops out.
Denny Danger has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Connor Hodgson.
Hodgson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Danger throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Danger clinches.

Danger pulls Hodgson into guard.
Danger has a closed guard, preventing Hodgson from standing up.
Hodgson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Danger swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hodgson wants to control from the top but Danger keeps moving.
Danger wants to sweep but no luck.
Danger keeping moving, preventing Hodgson from controlling successfully.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Danger is looking to stand up but Hodgson isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Danger lands with a nice body punch.

Danger clinches up against the cage.

Danger manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Hodgson prevents the takedown attempt.
Danger has Hodgson pressed against the cage, preventing Hodgson from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Danger manages to break the clinch.
Denny Danger is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Hodgson circles away from the clinch attempt

and Hodgson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Danger seems keen to control Hodgson's posture.

Danger has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Hodgson doesn't defend quickly enough and Danger has managed to lock this one up! Can Hodgson escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Danger on a fantastic submission victory.
