PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sean Strickland (ranked 767 p4p, 1282 weight class) and Cuervo Oquendo (ranked 108 p4p, 172 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sean Strickland!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cuervo Oquendo!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Steve Erwin and Ben Watson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Strickland keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Strickland was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Strickland waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Oquendo.
Oquendo is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Strickland with a body shot.
Strickland takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

It looks like Sean Strickland has been cut.

Strickland looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Oquendo is fending him off so far but Strickland persists. Nope, Oquendo circles away and we're back to standing.
Oquendo throws a front kick that sends Strickland stumbling back into the cage.
Oquendo bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Strickland's head.
Oquendo lands a nice looking body kick.
Oquendo connects with a single shot there.
Oquendo lands a jab to the nose.

Strickland is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Oquendo closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Strickland! Oquendo dives in looking to finish! Strickland is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cuervo Oquendo!
A less than humble Cuervo Oquendo misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
