PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shubham Chavan (ranked 3933 p4p, 4104 weight class) and Alijah Mcmahon (ranked 472 p4p, 484 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Elvis Blanc.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mcmahon dives in and scores a takedown into Chavan's guard.
Chavan pulls Mcmahon in close to prevent any damage.
Mcmahon scoring with punches to the head and body.
Mcmahon trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Chavan wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Mcmahon is now in half guard.

Chavan can't keep his opponent in guard - Mcmahon advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Mcmahon looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Chavan wants to improve his position but Mcmahon is controlling well.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Chavan tries to bum rush Mcmahon with a series of wild strikes but Mcmahon uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Chavan throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Mcmahon closes the distance and pushes Chavan back into the cage.

Mcmahon gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Mcmahon is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Mcmahon stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Mcmahon rushes Chavan and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Mcmahon jumps guard but Chavan stands there with Mcmahon around his waist. Mcmahon gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Chavan swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Shubham Chavan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Chavan just misses with a punch to the body.
Shubham Chavan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mcmahon shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Mcmahon was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mcmahon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chavan keeps working.

Mcmahon decides to stand back up.
Mcmahon tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Mcmahon has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Mcmahon fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Chavan to the ground. Mcmahon is now in Chavan's guard.

Mcmahon is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Mcmahon postures up in Chavan's guard and throws a big left but Chavan blocks it.
Mcmahon passes Chavan's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Mcmahon is taking a breather. Chavan says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Mcmahon stands up and beckons Chavan to join him on the feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Mcmahon moves into the clinch.
Chavan lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Mcmahon tries for a takedown. No joy.
Chavan has had enough of the clinch but Mcmahon keeps him there for the moment.
Chavan tries to circle away but Mcmahon has him pinned against the cage.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Chavan enables Mcmahon to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Chavan manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Alijah Mcmahon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Mcmahon tries to close the distance and clinch but Chavan swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Chavan gets caught flat footed, as Mcmahon shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Mcmahon in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Mcmahon decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Chavan, up you get!

Mcmahon bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Chavan lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mcmahon circles away quickly and effectively.

Chavan throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Chavan sets himself, and Mcmahon steps forward looking for the clinch! Chavan avoids it this time.
Mcmahon shoots in for a double leg but Chavan sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

As Mcmahon looks to move away, Chavan throws a big counter combo but Mcmahon just gets out of the way.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Shubham Chavan.
I think Mcmahon has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
