PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Amon Asimov (ranked 4160 p4p, 4150 weight class) and Tim Ibriam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Asimov tries a head kick but it misses.

Ibriam gets tackled into the cage by Asimov. Asimov maintains the clinch.

Ibriam has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Asimov uses from the top position.
Ibriam trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Asimov won't allow Ibriam to sweep him here.
Ibriam controls Asimov momentarily but Asimov frees himself.
Asimov trying to control the position from guard on top but Ibriam is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Asimov drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Ibriam manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Asimov has Ibriam in his guard.

Ibriam has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Asimov can't keep his opponent in guard - Ibriam advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Asimov pushes Ibriam off but Ibriam dives into side control.
Ibriam is working Asimov over with some ground and pound from side control.
Ibriam takes a little break here. Asimov wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
I wouldn't like to be where Asimov is right now.
Asimov misses with a strike from the bottom.

Ibriam working the head and body with strikes.
Ibriam scores with a couple of short elbows.
Ibriam trying to control the position but Asimov is working away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Asimov is trying to get back to his feet.
Ibriam cracks Asimov with a big right hand but Asimov just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Ibriam lands a nice forearm strike.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ibriam passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Asimov!

Ibriam is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Ibriam extends the arm and Asimov is forced to tap!
