Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jack Lake (ranked 4879 p4p, 5231 weight class) and Dustin Gold (ranked 279 p4p, 288 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jack Lake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dustin Gold!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, William Peck and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lake throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Gold was covering up waiting for the punch and Lake finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Lake trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Lake forces his way into half guard.
Lake not doing much here.
Lake wants to control but Gold is keeping him busy.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gold can do anything to dispel that myth.
Gold wants to get back to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lake takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Gold is staying active underneath Lake, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Lake is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gold is just riding it out for now. Lake eventually gives up the hold.

Lake wants to free his trapped foot but Gold is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Lake seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gold does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Lake looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Lake wants to take a breather but Gold is having none of it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Lake looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Gold is looking to improve his position.
Gold is trying to maintain the position but Lake is very close to passing his half guard.

Lake is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Lake wants to work for an arm triangle but Gold is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Gold trying to hold on to Lake's head to control him but Lake postures up.
Gold regains full guard. Nicely done.
Gold really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lake. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Lake wants to control from the top but Gold keeps moving.

Lake is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Dillo's Deadly Dojo that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Lake really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gold keeping moving, preventing Lake from controlling successfully.
Gold looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Lake is stalling in the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Lake drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
A bone on bone clash there as Lake blocks the leg kick.
Lake shoots in looking for a takedown but Gold manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Lake's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Dustin Gold seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lake shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Gold counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
A shot to the liver by Gold. Beautiful body shot.
Gold throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Lake shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gold pinned against the cage. Gold gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Lake. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lake with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Gold to score with a decent uppercut.
Gold ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Lake takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Gold misses with a wild combination.
Gold stuffs the takedown attempt from Lake. Lake gets slowly back to his feet.

Gold tries to bum rush Lake with a series of wild strikes but Lake uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Lake takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Gold misses with a jab, cross combination.
Nice sprawl there from Gold as Lake shoots in.
Lake throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gold's waist but Gold gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lake off to one side.
Gold stuffs the takedown.
Gold throws out a counter right but Lake avoids it with no problem.
Lake shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Gold has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Lake is breathing heavily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gold lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Lake dives in and grabs Gold's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gold pushes down on Lake's head and hops out.
Dustin Gold is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gold comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Gold punishes Lake's body with a nice straight punch.
Gold misses with a kick to the body.

Gold lands with a good body shot.
Gold misses with a two punch combination.
Lake takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Lake fails with a takedown attempt.
A countering left hand to the body from Gold misses.
Lake takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Lake on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Lake dives in for a single leg takedown but Gold sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Gold lands a right hand that snaps the head of Lake backwards.
A short right from Gold on the inside.

Lake is rocked!
Lake fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Gold.

That's eight minutes gone in the round.
Gold lands a body punch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Lake looking to slow down the pace here.
Gold gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Lake.
Lake drops down looking for an ankle pick but Gold pulls his leg out and moves away.
Lake has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Gold finds it's way round the side to connect with Lake's head.
Oh Lake is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Gold lands a nice hook to Lake's body. Lake takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Lake seems to have got his legs back now.
Gold uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Gold thuds a left hand into Lake's body.
Gold throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Lake stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Lake takes one on the chin but seems OK.

That's nine minutes gone in the round.
Gold drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks Lake right on the button. Lake goes down! Gold follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Gold gets the win via TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 9:10 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dustin Gold!
