PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mickey Whelan (ranked 1960 p4p, 2797 weight class) and Frankz Muller (ranked 257 p4p, 340 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Whelan might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to The Mamas & the Papas - California Dreamin'. Frankz Muller will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Muller as Whelan shoots in.
Muller tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Whelan uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Muller.
Muller throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Muller scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Muller misses with an uppercut. Whelan saw that one coming.

Whelan drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Whelan slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Whelan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Muller keeps working.
Whelan advances to full mount.
Whelan won't let Muller get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Muller has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.
Whelan controls the action.

Whelan is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Muller won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Whelan off his unconscious opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Mickey Whelan!

Our winner, Mickey Whelan, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
