Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Douglas Sampson (ranked 32 p4p, 139 weight class) and Daniel Spong (ranked 4 p4p, 15 weight class). Sampson comes to the cage accompanied by Sunshine (ft. Anthony Hamilton) - Twista . Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Douglas Sampson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Daniel Spong!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spong shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Spong takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Spong fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Sampson to the ground. Spong is now in Sampson's guard.
Spong passes Sampson's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Spong sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Sampson defending well though.

Spong had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sampson defends it easily.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sampson pulls Spong in close to prevent any damage.
Spong wants to control from the top but Sampson keeps moving.

Spong passes Sampson's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Sampson won't allow Spong to pass to mount.
Spong throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Sampson to regain full guard.

Sampson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Spong on the ground.
Spong is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Spong misses with a head shot. Sampson uses the momentum to regain guard.
Sampson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Spong is one step ahead there.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sampson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Sampson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Spong accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Spong drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Sampson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Spong has Sampson in his guard.


Spong has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sampson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Spong is trying to work for a kimura but Sampson is defending well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Spong is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sampson is just riding it out for now. Spong eventually gives up the hold.

Sampson is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Spong's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Spong's back!

It looks like Sampson is going to stand back up.

That was a close second round but I would say that Douglas Sampson will probably get the nod.

Spong is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.
