PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tapad Amiga (ranked 23903 p4p, 23738 weight class) and Rico Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 48 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tapad Amiga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 38 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rico Salvacion!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Salvacion shoots in looking for a takedown but Amiga manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Salvacion's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Amiga closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Amiga lands in his opponent's guard.
Amiga seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Amiga throwing strikes but missing.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Amiga trying to control but Salvacion is working from the bottom.
Salvacion is adopting a defensive guard.
Amiga controlling from the top position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Amiga darts in looking for a takedown but Salvacion gets double underhooks and turns Amiga into the cage.
Salvacion is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Salvacion lands a takedown into guard.
Amiga pulls Salvacion in close to prevent any damage.
Salvacion seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Amiga seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Salvacion sitting in guard, not really doing much.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Amiga is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Salvacion leaves Amiga with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Rico Salvacion will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Salvacion looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Amiga is fending him off so far but Salvacion persists. Nope, Amiga circles away and we're back to standing.
Amiga is looking to counter with a body kick.

Salvacion tries to sprawl but Amiga drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Amiga perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Salvacion wants to control but Amiga is keeping busy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Salvacion is positioning himself well to prevent Amiga advancing to mount.
Salvacion is looking to control Amiga's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Salvacion avoid being mounted?
Salvacion keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Salvacion keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Salvacion let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Salvacion closes this distance looking for a takedown but Amiga circles away.
Amiga quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Salvacion fails with the takedown.
Tapad Amiga has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rico Salvacion.
Salvacion avoids a kick to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Amiga bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Amiga looks up at the clock and then as Salvacion takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Amiga smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Amiga wants to control but Salvacion is keeping him busy.
Salvacion is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.
Salvacion is not content to let Amiga control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Amiga is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Salvacion's shoulder. That is not cool.
You can see the frustration on Salvacion's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A lull in the action here.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Tapad Amiga dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Salvacion closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Amiga struggling a bit here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Amiga is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Salvacion is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Salvacion just content to control the position.
Who's going to make the next move?

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Amiga wants to control but Salvacion postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Amiga shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Salvacion manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Salvacion has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Amiga can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Amiga is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Amiga postures up and lands a big shot to Salvacion's brow.
Amiga looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Amiga has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Salvacion goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Amiga changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Salvacion looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tapad Amiga.
Well Amiga has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
